Looking for input as to the value of U1A cd player for 1991 1992 Firebirds
Okay, so I am going through some of my stuff and came across a factory U1A radio from a 1991 Trans Am that I have that is not original to the car. It is however the correct U1A radio for a 1991 or 1992 Firebird, it is the CD player by the way. Since I am a bit of an original freak, I pulled the radio and replaced it with the correct radio that was original to that car and am now considering selling it. I know they are "rare" as I do have a couple of other cars currently with the U1A RPO, however they all have their factory original radios, so in a way I don't need this radio. Yes, it all works, so what is everyone's opinion as to value...I'm thinking $32,816.57, your thoughts? Oh, and to be clear, I'm not dangling it out there to entice anyone, I'd just like to get the "experts" (that would be you all) opinion as to the value of it, as I may, only may, sell it.
Thanks in advance, and enjoy life, because it is too damn short.

Scooter, sweet offer. So let's split the difference between my $32,000 and your $50; we can settle on $16,000.00, right?
Actually, I've done a little more digging to find out the value and it seems it is about $400.00 or so and for that, I'll just toss it back on a shelf in case I need it in the future. Unless Scooter comes through with that $16,000.00....okay, okay, $15,900.00, c'mon Scooter what do you say?

lol, you have a deal! I'll need a few days to take $16,000 out of my 401k though, hopefully you're in no rush. Depending on the market and wire transfer I have to wait 5-7 business days
I would actually be willing to pay a few hundred for a working one. I just don't see myself using it other than hoarding it since I have never had my hands or seen one before.

Scooter, sure, I can wait a few days, so go ahead and transfer those funds from your 401K or I can take a third party, out of the country check and send the radio out right away. It's been fun babbling with you.
Yeah, I actually don't have a use for it at the present time either, but I did think they were pretty rare and thought if maybe they were like $600 - $800 I'd move it to somebody that needs it, but I think they are only worth around $400 and for that amount I'll throw it back on the shelf in case I wind up needing it in the future.
Have a good day!

I don't know. I go back and forth between my stock Delco units and aftermarket CD units, and frequently I'll pull the subs and amp out of a car just to run it stock for awhile. My Mustang hasn't had anything in the dash for years... Point being that anymore I don't care enough about listening to music in the car to bother with an aftermarket unit, or carrying around CDs. At this point, carrying around compact discs seems as archaic as cassette tapes or vinyl LPs. I haven't embraced the millennial music devices either...
So for myself, as neat as an OE CD Radio would be, I'd have trouble giving much for one based on my lack of a need, I would be just as satisfied with an AM/FM or nothing... Not to mention the inherent issues of durability of a vintage unit. If it were in a car how long would it be before a catastrophic failure? Plastic discoloring, buttons cracking, electrical problems. It could end up dying at any point and costing as much to have repaired as it's initial cost.
I'd be in around $100, if I wanted one. It's "worth" more, but I wouldn't pay much more.

Actually I don't listen to a radio in any of my play toys when I drive them....I prefer to simply listen to the car itself, however being the "gotta be original" jerk I am, I make sure all my cars are as close to "original" as possible, so nothing but factory radios for me. Fortunately, my dailies have provisions for a thumb drive, so I can rock out my 5FDP and aggravate my wife.

its easy to swap aftermarket decks in and out with an adapter harness, then switch back to the origianl in case of a sale/show etc.

I have 1 of the CD/Eq delco units. And one without.
Red back lighting so Pontiac.
I paid nothing for them.
A working unit is $100 or less !
Heres one of the non EQ units along with a cassette unit.<br/>
*pics 4 attn*
Gotta pull them off the shelf for pics.
