Ultimate In-dash MP3 player?!

I just ran across this and thought I'd share it with everyone. An in-dash MP3 headunit with Harddrives.

Here's another one Neo MP3 Player . This one runs only on rechargeable batteries but they are making a DC adapter from what I've heard. I like this one!

That isn't bad, 199 for the 10gig one. I could put all mine on there and drive around care free.

Yea that is really cheap compared to the others I've seen. I would like to have one of those.

That is SWEET! Now if I can only order it without the drive ;-) I've got 2 30GB laptop drives taking upspace here....hehehe

...and PLENTY of MP3's to fill em both!

That first one, the Rio, is pretty sweet. However, that whole "easily removable for downloading simplicity" business just screams steal me. And I'd hate to have to carry that thing around. Still, interesting concept.

This is what I've been waiting for. I was close to going ahead and getting an old laptop if I could find one on ebay for about $250. Hard drives are the only way to go, it took them long enough to relize that.

I still want a radio though, I'll have to consider this carefully. I don't really feel like spending that extra dough on their little tuner, when I've got plenty of tuners now.

Has anyone seen a unit like this for $200 that works like a cd chagner?

theres no tuner on it? that stinks. I always get bored of the songs, no matter how many there are, and like to hear some different stuff on the radio. Or traffic reports so im not sitting in idle on the freeways ..

That's one thing that was holding me back too....no tuner. Gotta pay $60 extra to listen to the radio ;-)

Hey when you get it could you give us a review and maybe some pics? I'm interested too but since you've done ordered it I'll wait to see what you think about. I would use it as an add-on to my receiver not as a replacement so the tuner issue wouldn't bother me. And $200.00 is really cheap for having that much storage space and the benifits of endless music. I haven't seen any reviews on it yet so I'm curious of the quality and etc. Thanks John

Bad news guys the RioCar is discontinued. They are selling out their inventory at Sonicblue.com . They are sold out of the 10gig's but did have the rest in stock. Like the 20gig for $299. I think I'm gonna pass on this one.

empeg

I was just at crutchfield, kenwood makes a product but it looks to be a bit pricey... its basically the size of a changer but I dont think it accepts cds. You hook it up to any kenwood cd changer deck (with cd text ability) and it works as a cd changer (folders are different cd numbers; Files the tracks themselves.) $749 - 10gig hdd, sounds like it accecpts any normal desktop hdd though. So you could put a 60gig in for $89 (pricewatch.com)

That empeg unit (rio player thing now, bought out) rocks. Very sad to see it go (been around for 4-6 years.) I remember it was just a project by two british guys fuxing around with pda chips, linux, and protable mp3 playing ability.

i figured somethin was up when i saw the rio for sale that cheap. it originally started out know as the Empeg player. it used to run a condensed version of Linux if i believe right. it came out a year or two ago and was selling for $1000+. Then i believe they were bought out, redesigned, and called the Rio. I've heard only good things about this player, such as stability, and its software is upgradable. I think there was also a model or two that came with a radio tuner, but can't quite remember. at this price, i wouldnt pass it up. but i'm unfortunately a broke college kid, so i think i'm gonna have to let it go....
