10" Mtx 5000

I have two 10" MTX 5000 rated at RMS 250 Watts and Total 500 Watts. I was wondering what would be a good amp to power these subs. I have had good experience with Kenwood.

Totally depends on how much you're willing to spend, what kind of results you're looking for, and where you're going to be buying it from. A three to five hundred watt amp from a decent brand will probably tide you over nicely unless you're really looking to maximize their potential. Regardless, power is power so it's up to you in the end. Generally Rockford and Kicker get the best performance per dollar reviews with MTX, JL, and Alpine also garnering some recognition. And there are no shortage of brands that rank both above and below those ones. The problem is finding them in Vancouver.

Around here it's pretty hard to get 1) a good deal or 2) very much in the way of selection. I've picked up most of my stuff off of ebay or through the states.

However, Visions carries Rockford and has added Kicker this year as well. They're also an official Orion dealer even though they only stock the Cobalt line and some selections from the XTR line; no HCCA. For amps, they're a pretty good place to start looking if only because they carry some of the more decent, modestly priced brands of amplifier.

A&B Sound carries JL and Alpine, but they don't stock many of their better amps. I'm not sure if they sell PPI anymore, but it's worth a look.

Future Shop (which has now been bought out by Best Buy) carries MTX, so if you wanted to get the same brand as you're sub (but that's not really necessary) that's where you'd go.

Beamriders sells Audiobahn and some other stuff, but I haven't kept up and have actually been disappointed by their selection in the past.

Speaker City is one of the best places to get head units, speakers and have installations done, but I believe their amp selection is limited to Clarion and Kenwood 'cause they stopped carrying Soundstream. Go figure.

Beyond that you get into various specialty stores offering the same stuff in different combinations. There's a great deal of stuff out there that you can't even find here without really making an effort. Trust me.

Im not looking to take these speaker to their max. I just want to put enough power to make them thump.

I think I will try a rockford amp because I hear good things about them and there is a dealer in Maple Ridge that stocks them.

Should I be looking at a mono or stereo amp? How many watts per channel? Ohms?

Thanks for any help

how many ohms are your subs, if they are both 4ohm then if u wire them in parellel u get a 2ohm load, RF amps like that lol, but if u have to 8ohm subs, then u wire them in parellel and u get a 4ohm load, with the 2 subs wired like i said, look for an amp that will put out around 400w RMS, like a Rockford Fosgate Punch 360.2 will run more than 360 watts bridged at 2ohms

Yeah, a 360.2 would be perfect then. If you factor in that Rockford underrates their amps, you'll be pushing those subs pretty hard. The next amp down, the 250.2, would probably suffice. But make sure to compare prices on ebay and such just so you know what you're getting into.

The 360.2 amp from Rockford is the best dollar per performance ratio I have found.
