I'm wanting to install some 6" component speakers in my 86 T/A kick panels and need some advice on the best mounting position for the tweeters. In the kick panel with the mids or in the 4x6 speaker position in the dash?...TIA!
I'd put them in the kick panels with the mids. The 4x6 locations in the dash will reflect the high frequencies off the window into your face and generally end up sounding very harsh. Using the kicks will also give you better soundstage overall.
Everyone says there is not enough room. But, if I would recommend anything speaker wise it would be to put speakers in the doors. I have a car that I bought mainly for the digital dash that I have been experimenting with. You have to cut holes in the doors but there is enough to fit a pretty decent size speaker in there. I have kicker Cs's. I even wired my aftermarket amp up to the factory subwoofer switch on the dash to turn the speakers and my Subs in the back on. This car pretty much needs everything so I didn't mind taking the chance cutting it up a bit. My really nice car has a lot of sound deadener installed and good seals. Where this car does not. Even then it still sounds pretty good. I use some standard sound deadener and foam cones from AutoZone to make it a little bit less harsh. I am telling you though as soon as I press that button to turn that amp, the car has a completely different sound feel to it. You Could Feel the Bass coming from the six by nines and my sub, well getting your mids and highs from the door speakers and the four by sixes in the dash.
I would bet that the kick pod speakers sound much better than a free air speaker that is mounted in the door. I have a pair of 6" speakers mounted in my center console and they only produce highs and a little midrange. No bass whatsoever. If my car weren't a manual I would probably make a set of kick pod speakers but then I'd have no Left foot room on the driver's side.

They are not open air due to the cones I put in there. Really helps with the vibrations.
I'm now working on adding a 7 inch touchscreen instead of a double din, that will be running off a Raspberry PI/OpenAuto. Have it so close to being done, just ran out of summertime to get it all installed. Here is a pic of it out of the car though.
Doors are best due to the baffle effect for bass BUT these door are so rattle-ridden, I needed to put two types of sound deadeners in them and secure all the loose panels. I went with 6-1/2 Polk separates. Tweeters in the dash positions. 10" Bazooka dual coil sub in the trunk. Fosgate Punch 75 (Punch 150 going in this week :-))running it all and a factory Delco-Bose head unit with an aux in. There is room for shallower 6-1/2 drivers in the door as surface mounted. These Polks had good power and sound and were shallow enough to fit. It did take some fabrication to get them in.
Regardless, tweeters in the dash. It just spreads the sound out and fills the car.

I've run these in my 92 camaro for over 20 years. I have a clutch and they don't interfere. Only down side is once you cut the tweeter hole it can never be smaller if you get a different set of tweeters that are smaller.
Q form Q Logic kick panels come very far into the foot well area. Makes it hard to put your foot there.
Bologna! I've had mine 20 years. My car is a clutch, driven regularly, drag raced, autoXed, and road raced. The qlogic panels have NEVER interfered. Size 11-12 shoes depending on brand, and that's everything from thin, light chuck's to big, heavy wolverine boots. Unfortunately, they are a perfect place to rest my foot and it gets the speaker covers dirty.

So you're using the q-form as a foot rest. Personally I wouldn't for fear of damaging the speaker (and muffling the sound) but to each his own.

Assume what you like. You know as well as I there's no replacement for experience. The covers provided by q logic have protected the same pair of Bostons for over 20 years without even a scratch. I've never noticed any interference from my foot, but most of the time my foot is not resting there.
Please stop trying to put down a product you clearly have no experience with.
Even at this side angle you can see how much clearance remains for the clutch pedal. They do a good job directing the sound. No, these aren't the perfect solution but I've been pleased with mine.

if you are referring to the kick panels that protrude almost 6" into the foot-well area,THEY ARE FRINGING HUGE.........
that would drive me up the wall and back again.you must have adopted some strange driving style to compensate for having something down there the size of a small to medium dog.
please don't have buyers guilt/excuse/fanboy syndrome and stick up for a product like this,these may sound ok but are massive .how you drive with all this crap down by your feet is amazing.
these would be in my car for all of ........no time whatsoever.
if it was a slushbox ,maybe but not with a stick.IMO of course.your results may vary,i just cant see how...
