I recently bought an 89 Iroc, It has the delco bose system with the two rear speakers and the two speakers in the kick panel. The rear speakers work, the speakers in the kick panel do not. The owner had put an aftermarket alarm and remote lock/unlock, a cd changer with rf modulator on it. I removed the alarm, remove lock, cd changer and rf modulator. The radio worked before I removed these items and the rear speakers did fine, however after removing it all and plugging the radio back in it doesn't work. The clock doesn't even come on. You can hear a faint almost whining sound from the rear speakers once I plug in the connector that has the power, again the front speakers never worked so those I know I need to replace. My first thought was maybe a fuse blew, but those are all fine. All the wires appear to be fine. So I'm thinking of sending the Delco Bose head unit off to one of these repair shops to see if maybe I damaged something while taking everything out. But before I do that I figured I would check here to see if there is something I should check/look at to make sure I'm not missing a simple or moderate fix that I can do myself whether that be somewhere in the wiring, car, etc or the radio itself. Thanks
I've got some experience with the Thirdgen BOSE stuff.
OBVIOUSLY: I don't know how that stuff was wired;, but when you removed the add-on equipment you *might* have removed power from the system. The ORANGE wire at the back of the radio should have battery power at all times. The YELLOW wire at the back of the radio should have battery power when the key is turned to RUN or ACC; BLACK wire is ground and the PINK wire should have battery voltage when the radio is turned ON.
If all those things are TRUE,.... the radio should power-up properly and you should have full control. I didn't say you should have sound,... I said the radio controls should work normally. ( Turn ON/OFF, change stations, set time, etc... )
If you can find the BOSE relay behind the dash housing; The ORANGE wire should have battery voltage at all times and the PINK wire ( from radio ) should have battery voltage when the radio is turned ON. The PINK/BLACK wires at each speaker AMP should also have battery power when the radio is turned ON.
If everything above is true than you should have full control of the radio AND should hear music.
Re-post here with the results after using a test light or Voltmeter to test the wires as I described above.
** These diagrams are for the 91 BOSE system that's a little different than your 89 set-up; but the general information ( wire colors, power sources, etc... ) is going to be the same.

ok, did the first part of the test. The orange wire, which is actually orange/black on mine does bot have power. The yellow wire does have power with the car on, the pink wire does have power with the radio on. So it looks like something with whayever the orange/black wire goes to.
unless it is located somewhere else and not mentioned in the manual mine does not have that add on panel
disregard last post after doing a search on here I found the add on box. Its to the right of the steering column in a black box you have to pull down. Radio powers on now after replacing the fuse. No sound out of the rear speakers, just the whining noise.
One thing I don't know about is that I have 2 plug in back of the radio for speakers, but there are 4 connectors behind the dash.
Found the relays(2 of them), I have orange, orange/black, and pink. All have power.
This is what your Radio plugs should look like: 1 wire on the BLUE plug - and 1 wire on the WHITE plug - should be shielded with clear plastic insulation.

Yep, except I have 2 blue plugs and 2 white plugs. From what I've read one is the the standard radio setup and one is for bose. They look identical. I tried both and still not luck with the speakers other than the whining noise.
If you end up needing amps or the harness I have a set I would part with from my '87. I am going with a completely new system that will give me 8 speakers total, 2x dash, 2x kick panel, 2x sail panel, and 2x rear tray. Dash and sail will be powered through one amp, with the kick and rear being powered through a second amp.

2 Sets of speaker plugs; Yes./ But they are NOT identical: The BOSE plugs will have,.......

Suspect the AMPS before the Speakers; speakers are probably just fine. Check for POWER (PINK/BLACK) and GROUND ( BLACK) at each AMP.
