2001 grand prix cd player into 1991 bird

I just bought a 2001 Grand Prix CD player (no wiring harness) that I'd like to replace my non-functioning stock tape player in my 1991 Firebird. My hope is to find a factory wiring harness for the stock GP cd player, then a harness to plug into the Bird's tape player harness, then wire the two together. Hopefully that makes sense. Basically I need a stock harness for a stock '01 Grand Prix CD player, I just don't know where to look. I've had no luck on ebay. Can anybody help? I've already read up on here how to install the CD player, hopefully it'll be easy enough for me.

Have you removed the radio from your 91 yet to checkout its harness? If not, then do so before you buy anything, because a 2001 radio should plug-n-play into the harness and antenna of a 1991 car. Physical installation won't be quite as simple, but it will fit.

I know the install won't be super simple, but I've read up on here and I think I'm prepared for it.

As far as the harness, I have not removed anything and tried to plug it in yet. I was going to try and buy everything I needed first. I had no idea it might be just a simple plug-and-play, I'll have to check that out. Thanks.

I believe 88 or 89 thru 2002 connectors are plug and play

You will probably just need to break the locking tab from the rear speaker plug,...... I can't remember if the inner "ridge" had to be removed. ( I don't *think* so ! )

Same here Mark, makes it easier to check specific things when testing or installing.

Funny thing; That set in particular isn't from a Thirdgen ( Buick maybe? ); You will not believe how many people get 'tripped-up' by that green wire !!! (Them = "It doesn't match my harness !?!?" Me = "Just splice to Brown and your G-T-G !" )

Re: 2001 grand prix cd player into 1991 bird

I have this issue when I bought a CD player from some other Pontiac for my GTA. Same connections, but the housing of them prevented it from being connected without sawing apart some plastic. I ended up sending it back, not because of that but because having a bank of dead buttons on my steering wheel would have driven me crazy. Got the factory radio that works with those buttons repaired instead.
