New old JVC deck

JVC KS-RX710J

I believe these were meant as factory deck replacement units.

CD / audio jack input
rear out rca
5 band eq

It sounds fantastic compared to the factory deck on stock speakers, better than the early 2000s alpine CD player I had in prior.

Not much for a wiring diagram on the internet, but I’m certain of all but one front speaker “polarity”. It’s nearly match for match on gm wire colour, I put in a patch harness and haven’t cut the oem.

Excellent looking radio/cassette player

Is the backlighting green or amber?

That is very cool. I installed a late-90s unit from a Grand Prix because I wanted n to keep the 1.5 DIN and my car came With a busted single DIN aftermarket unit. Looks ok, but not quite period. What you found is plenty nice!

green sadly. I’d love to have it red to match the gauge cluster or even amber to match the Hvac controls.

thank you. You can see they really went for the home stereo receiver look.

Unable to leave good enough alone I foolishly pulled out the stock front speakers and swapped in some middle of the road clarion 4” plates… I’ll be re-installing the factory speakers tomorrow. Any thoughts on putting speaker baffles in, I’d like to add a bit of “richness” to the sound and leave it on deck power.

Re: New old JVC deck

Would be tough to have enough space for baffles in the front, I'd think. Unless the plan is to just shove some loose cotton batting in the area. I just had my whole dash out and installed yesterday. With all the venting that runs in that area, it is pretty tight. I have battles (factory installed?) in the rear sail panels and happy with the sound from there.

I also have the factory fronts installed. Sorry to hear the Clarion did not work for you. I considered updating the front speakers while the dash was out and They were so accessible, but decided to just leave them in for current.

I went down to the local wrecking yard and found this coax set in a ‘01 Cavalier more door. Has an independent tweeter and seems like a bunch more cone stroke (xmax).

I swapped the gaskets off the off the originals, lined the cavities with sound deadener (salvaged from the same cavalier).

With my untuned ear I think they’re a nice upgrade over the stockers.

sharp eye, I harvested it for the new speaker. There isn’t one cut wire on my car.

Is it possible to get in there and change out the bulb?

I’m hoping there’s a lens I can remove to turn the backlight to amber.

I did sell this deck to another member. I got the wiring layout by searching other JVC units of the same era, this unit is rare and therefore hard to find information on.
