WHERE DID YOU RUN YOUR WIRES????????
WHERE DID YOU RUN YOUR WIRES????????
Hi, I am gradually installing my system and I was wondering how all of you experts ran you positive gauge wire, remote shut-off wire, and rca adapters to the front of the car. Also, where is the easiest place to run the positive gauge wire through the firewall to the battery. My last question is where did you attatch you negative gauge wire to the metal. I only have 3 ft. to work with therefore I can't run it all the way to the front. Please post any knowledgable advice on my topics. Thanks.

This article on the IROC Homepage has information on Camaro and Firebird installs. Look under 'Various wiring associated with the stereo'. I believe the same article is available on this site.

there is a good grounding spot right below the drivers side rear seat. Feel underneath there and you should touch it. I used that. My remote turn on was wrapped in with my RCA's and I ran those from the back of the stereo to the drivers side kick panel. The along the floor and up behind the back seat.

I don't know if it is standard or not, but my 88 IROC had a hole in the firewall on the passenger side when I bought it. It was just above where you would put your feet. The insulation was slit right there and the hole was right behind it.
I ran my RCA and remote wire down the passenger side under the plastic molding by the door. It is easy to just take the screws out and lift the carpet and put them under there and then close it up. I grounded it where the spare tire used to be. I attached my wire directly to the body.

You need to have your ground as close to the amp as possible.
Find a spot where a bolt goes to the body of the car, scrape off all the paint (so that the wire has a good connection with the metal) and screw the ground in with the bolt....
Thats the ground...
About the hole in the firewall... My 92 RS has a hole that is on the driver side, a couple of very small wires run through it....
I ran my power through that....
Have fun!

What ever you do don't run your power wire along side of your RCA's. In my 88 camaro I have 3 sets of RCA's running to the back. Any wire that is live (positive) creates an energy feild around it and you will get static in your speakers. Run your power wire on one side and RCA's on the other.

My positive battery cable runs up the driver's side of the car (same side the battery's on). I had used that grommet on the pass side (some thing it's for a cruise control, some think it's for something with a manual transmission) for something else, so I just drilled another hole.
All my RCA cables run down the center of the car, all the way to the hatchback. It's not as bad as it seems with the carpet still installed. It's just a pain. You'll have to remove the center console, and do a lot of fishing around.
All my speaker wires (in particular, the front speakers) run down the passenger side of the car.
You'll find a particular "trouble" spot when you try to lead the wires underneath the sides of the car. When you remove the plastic door sill, you can tuck the wires underneath the carpet. Go as low as you can- first, you'll see a plastic wiring duct. Feel past that, feel for the floor. You'll feel a gap formed between the angle of the plastic duct and the floor. Use that. Now, the trouble spot is getting the wire from "in front of" the seat belt retractor to "behind" the retractor. The secret (without removing the retractor)? You remove the seat to make things easier on yourself (four 10mm bolts, hidden by four plastic shrouds at each foot, the shrouds use phillip's head screws). Then, you snake the wire in that gap I told you about, and around the seat belt retractor.
As for a ground, I drilled into the car as close as possible to the amps. I made sure my holes were through large braces, and therefore not drilled thru to the outside of the car. Oh, you do know that the gas tank's top sits right behind the rear fold-back seat, right? Don't drill into that deck!
More than ya wanted to know, eh?
Good luck!
