If you have your stock AM/FM Cassette w/ EQ out of your dash, could you post the bezel & chassis dimensions? Also, does anyone have the maximum chassis dimensions that would fit into the dash?
My '89 IROC is currently stored where I can't get at it immediately and I'm looking into an aftermarket unit.
I'm wondering if a unit w/ the following dimensions would fit w/o a lot of custom work.
Chassis: 7 1/8"W x 6 1/2"L x 3 3/4"H
Bezel: 7 7/16"W x 4"H
Thanks for your replies.

Dimension specs are fairly useless. Cars use standardized sizes. GM uses a 1.5 DIN sized radio, which means the height is 1.5 times as high as a standard single DIN radio. Most aftermarket radios are single DIN units and need an adapter to fit into the dash of a GM vehicle. Pioneer, Alpine and a couple trash companies (Jensen and Audiovox come to mind) make 1.5 DIN units that are a direct fit. All single DIN units need an adapter.
Depth is also an issue. You don't have much depth in a camaro dash, and a single DIN radio is going to be a lot deeper than the stock radio. The Camaro mounting kits make the radio stick out about 3/4". This can only be avoided by cutting away part of the heating ducts in the center console and removing the steel bar that the stock radio tab slides into.

Thanks 87KEVROC. It seems the unit I'm after will fit. Check it out:

After seeing one in an Explorer I can't get it out of my mind how good it would look & function in an IROC. The guy w/ the Explorer loves the unit.
I think it looks a whole lot better than the units typical car audio companies are churning out for our cars. They claim they look better than the standard DIN units, but most are ugly & none fit w/ the styling of our interiors. That's to say nothing of the price they want for them.

Wait until you see how much that radio is going to cost. Installation is also going to be a huge pain in the *** .

I've emailed a local distributor for pricing and will post the results when I get them.
Based on the numbers 87KEVROC posted, this unit is slightly smaller than the OEM radio in all dimensions. So I don't anticipate it will be a big hassle to get it to fit or make up for the minor size diffences.

The local distributor quoted me $699 for one. I'm going to look into prices from other sources (factory direct, other distributors, dealers, etc.) and post what I find out.
Also, I noticed I was wrong about all the dimensions being smaller than the stock radio. The chassis height for this unit is 3/8" taller. That'll definitely need to be looked into before laying down any money.
