Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken
Just an FYI, the grid pattern has a specific color and texture, because it serves a specific purpose. The bezel and shift plate are not simply all black, with the texture creating a difference in appearance against the smooth and glossy substrates. The squares are specifically colored.
The texture of the squares simulates the texture of the dash bezel, and the color of the squares matches the dark grey color of the dash bezel. The purpose is to blend the dash and console together, by "fading" the dash "into" the smooth glossy black bezel and shift plate.
I mention this because nobody has reproduced the grid pattern correctly, and I don't think there's ever been a discussion about what it's about, which makes me think there's a lack of awareness of the purpose of the grid pattern.
If the new bezel is by 7thdarkangel again, then maybe you can pass along the info to help him become the first person to recreate the grid correctly.

And that is why it's difficult to recreate, lot of details.
Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken
We now have a prototype 1985-92 Firebird Bezel, it doesn't have the grid pattern but we can use it to make install brackets. The brackets should be ready and on our website in early November. They will make a double din install easier and the brackets will work with other bezels currently available on Ebay, Etsy, etc.

That is something the supplier is working on. They will be more expensive to produce so we might offer a bezel with a texture and another with the tron pattern.

2 issues so far that are holding up that product:
- The radio pods I have are in rough shape with busted mounting tabs. New reproduction pods might be something available in the near future thru a supplier and I'm also looking for one in better shape thru Ebay and other sellers.
- The grid pattern and finish doesn't print well enough, that is something the bezel makers are working on still. Would be possible for the bezel to have a finish similar to the Camaro, but nothing that would match the original bezel.
Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken
Okay, I'm not to worried about having the grid pattern or not. So if I pick up a set of your brackets and acquire my own bezel for it would I be good to go?

Current Camaro brackets do not fit 1985-92 Firebirds unless you drill holes and modify the brackets a lot. Once I can find a Firebird radio pod without broken mounting tabs we plan to make Firebird brackets.

Every Firebird pod I find is broken up and missing mountings points, which doesn't work well for making brackets that fit correctly. Normally they have at least 3 out of 4 so I can tell the Camaro wouldn't fit without modifications, but that's about all they are good for.

Finally started working on my firebird and the pod is completely intact! If you want to dm me I wouldn't mind sending it to you!
Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken
I should have Firebird bezels ready by or before the end of the year. found a place to machine the mold halves without costing me both of my arms and legs.
Both the Camaro bezel molds will be next after the Firebird bezel is finished. ETA spring 2025 or earlier.
Thank you all for your patients with this project. Its been one hell of an undertaking for sure.

We will have 1985-92 Firebird brackets on our website by the end of September. Working on the 1982-84 Firebird in October. The bezels we will be selling are 3D printed so not an exact match for stock but we will have with or without the checker pattern. They are very similar to the bezel that DigitalMonarch0 posted pics of. We also have a new Kenwood radio that has a new smaller chassis which will make the install easier (link below). We will also be doing an install video showing the radio below and the 1985-92 Firebird bezel & brackets. The brackets will be available with the bezel or separately. Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken
We got a batch of brackets from the machine shop and decided to make a couple of small changes before we start selling them. We are also going to powder coat them satin black, since the brackets are more visible on Firebird than the Camaros. With having the brackets remade and adding the powder coat we are estimating it will be 3-4 weeks before they are on the website.
***Update*** we got the brackets from the machine shop quicker than expected and have them on the website now.
This is cool Ill be doing this eventually but do you know of any double dins with physical volume buttons that will work. This would be with factory orientation.

Thanks,

Kenwood DPX305MBT has a physical volume **** and will fit. Pioneer also makes a couple radios with ***** that fit, the MVH-S622BS for example. The downside of those radios is since they don't have a large display you have very limited features, no map with navigation for example plus no reverse camera ability. On the positive side both of those radios are under $200.
Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken
Anyone interested in using a Sony double din radio? Sony radios are unique because they have the chassis of a single din with the display of the double din and the chassis is towards the top so the mounting holes are quite different compared to other radios. I purchased one for test fitting and they will need different brackets in order to work, I don't think they would work well for the reverse Camaro double but should fit the standard Camaro double din and I could design new Firebird brackets if anyone is interested. The Kenwood and JVC radios have been doing great, just looking to add more choices.

Sony XAV-9000ES
We are currently working on the Camaro, 1985-92 Firebirds will be after that. The Camaro just needs a bezel with a smaller opening, the Firebird will need new brackets and a revised bezel. We have a XAV-AX4000 we are using for testing, but once the project gets further along, I can tell you what to measure to see if the dimensions are the same. Very little interest in the Sony product line so the project has been lower in priority. I think you're the only person to inquire on this forum, social media, phone calls or any other form of contact. Not sure why, I've been impressed with the XAV-AX4000 (seems higher quality compared to other brands).
