Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken

Just added these to the website today. To install a Double DIN radio in your 1982-92 Camaro you need a radio, bezel and some way to mount the radio - this kit provides what you need to mount the radio. To gain clearance for the bigger radio you normally also have to modify your heat/ac controls, this kit also provides brackets for that purpose. Brackets are aluminum which makes the radio more sturdy than plastic. They are slotted so you can make small adjustments to get the radio exactly where you want it, you can move the radio up/down and forward/backward. We tested the brackets with a couple of the more popular 3D printed bezels currently available. This kit includes radio and heat/ac control brackets plus new hardware or you can use the factory hardware. Will not fit 1985-92 Firebirds unfortunately. Radio brackets will fit 1982-84 Firebirds, but HVAC brackets will not. Bezel is not included. $28.95

Will these work for a 1984 Trans Am? If not, any plans to create one??
Definitely need these for my build. Thanks

I am with you. there is nothing for the 82-84 for double din.

I am planning to use the 84 ta parts car center console to see if I can modify the metal brackets for double din.

These mounts should work for radio placement, but you need to move the ac controls and trim the metal frame on the console itself.

The radio brackets should work, may need a little filing at most but the heat/ac control brackets won't work. Can you send/post some pics of how your heat/ac mounts?

You need a kit like this for the 82-84 firebird. I can not find any info on who made it though.

looks like a quality kit there. I'm going to see how the Camaro kits sell and go from there. Would be good to have bezels to sell also. Plus I would need a center console for test fitting, so have to find one of those first. I have a '85 TA but totally different on the radio mount.

Brackets have quite a bit of adjustment so you can get radio flush with the bezel, recess it and have it come out some. Went with flush on my car.

Designed to work with climate controls on the top and radio on the bottom. My ac and heat quite working years ago so I got rid of it so I just have that black plate on top.

I think it just replaces the metal frame part of the 83-84 firebird console to shift the ac controls up enough to squeeze in a double din.

Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken

Wait a minute! You're Screaming Chicken, not Thundering Herd! You're offering brackets that fit Camaros, but NOT Firebirds?

This is something we've been needing. People who do 2DIN installs never show how they mount the radios. We only get finished pictures with the bezel installed over the radio. No doubt most of their mountings are probably pretty unsightly.

I can understand why the heat/ac control brackets might not fit Firebirds, but why wouldn't the radio brackets work? All of the radios of the generation use the same mounting brackets on the sides of the radios, and radio fitment is interchangeable from car to car, whether it's an 82-92 Camaro, an 82-84 Firebird, or an 85-92 Firebird. A radio from an 83 Camaro will fit into an 87 Firebird, and so on. I'm not talking about wiring connections, but simply radio fitment into the car's dash/console/pod. So if those radio brackets fit one 3rdgen, then they should fit all 3rdgens.

Granted, an 85-92 Firebird radio pod has a "shelf" that separates the heat/ac controls from the radio, which can make 2DIN fitment more complicated, but there are plenty of 2DINs already installed in those pods, so 2DIN will fit. Your brackets' adjustability should make fitment easier.

Nice product. I'll probably get a set.

I have a 1985 Trans Am, mounting holes in the pod for the Radio are closer together so the brackets we sell wouldn't work without some modifications. This was the first of double din products we're working on, so might be able to sell 1982-84 and 1985-92 Firebird brackets in the future. The double din radio makes a huge difference in modernizing the car and making it a better driver so definitely something we will have more products for. The Camaro brackets were a lot more involved than I thought they would be, especially moving the heater/ac controls up a small amount but happy with how everything turned out. Thanks!

I'm planning a double din install in the spring on my 87 TA. I would buy a set of brackets if you make them. Firebirds should really get every product before Camaro since we're better looking.😊
Just kidding.

I agree on that. Who is making a good 1985-92 bezel? The brackets have to work with the bezel so I need one of those for design/testing. I've seen 1982-84 TA bezels but haven't seen any 1985-92 for sale.

Here is a link for 1 on Ebay if it helps. I can't vouch for the quality. They show up on Etsy sometimes also.

You think not having the "grid" pattern would prevent people from buying it? If it had a glossy black finish than I might be able to apply the grid in matte black or similar color in vinyl but the background color would need to match well. I've seen some really nice ones, but people have painted them to get the grid which would get expensive.

The grid pattern would be nice. There is a pattern to 3D print on thingiverse with the grid pattern etched in.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2249678
The only problem I see with 3D printing is getting the metal clips for the ears. I also thought about just wrapping 1 with some brushed aluminum wrap in a color to match the stock bezel. ( I saw this in another post to be fair)Wrapping it would do away with trying to paint it and still give a quality look.
I hope this helps.

Very helpful. Pretty sure I can get metal clips that will work.

I need a car or at least a center console before I can do much. Currently working on some 4th gen and 2nd gen parts but by March should be able to make prototypes if I can round up needed parts.

I'm actually in the process of making them. They should come out similar to the Camaro plate as far as color and sheen are concerned.

Good deal! I'm using your Camaro bezel in my car; I like it better than some other ones I bought. I bought a couple of Camaro bezels from different suppliers to make sure the brackets worked the same.

Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken

Here's the sister file to the one posted by TABBOO.
Firebird 85-92 double DIN radio bezel - analog by cehbra - Thingiverse

Both were created by Cehbra in this thread. Cehbra also created a pattern in this thread to apply to this plain bezel so it would look factory.
Discussion: Texture improvement on 3D printed double DIN radio bezel (Firebird) - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

And here's a more recent thread by someone else. His file is based on the lesser-produced smaller HVAC opening found in digital dash cars, rather than the vastly more common standard size opening, but I'm not sure he was aware that there were two different bezels when he created it. Also within this thread is, yet, another version created by someone else. It's too deep, but it seems to fit ok. I've also seen these deeper versions on alibaba, which is where some other members have reported to have gotten one.

Will you have any bezels for an 87 Trans am ready for sale this spring. I am planning a double din install, if I can find a radio in stock somewhere.

Crutchfield.com currently has some Kenwood, Jensen, JVC and a couple of other brands in stock. Looks like no Sony or Alpine anywhere currently.

Definitely need these for my build. Thanks
I was able to get a center console from someone nearby and have a bezel from Unleaded-designs on the way so should have 1982-84 Firebird brackets in the near future. I'll be sure to post progress on the forum.

Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken

We're now selling bezel and brackets as a combination or brackets by themself. The bezels are from Unleaded Designs and we make the brackets. Brackets and bezels are in stock currently. We also got a double din 1982-84 Firebird bezel from Unleaded and found a used console to start developing brackets for. The Firebird brackets are a lot more involved than the Camaro so might be a month or so before they are ready, but they are in process.

Are planning on putting together a bracket and bezel kit for 85-92 Firebird? Do you think it would be possible to do a reverse kit to put the hvac controls below the radio like on some of the Camaro kits? I'm not sure if there would be room for this.

We have been very happy with the quality of the bezels from Unleaded so we are going to stick to making brackets for the bezels he offers. He mentioned working on a 1985-92 bezel but I don't believe it is a reverse set up. We're currently working on the 1982-84 Firebird brackets.

I'm holding off on buying a new car stereo until I can get a nice double-DIN bezel & brackets for my '83 Firebird...

Is there any news on when the 85 to 92 Firebird bezel and brackets will be ready?

Waiting on the bezel from Unleaded Designs, then we can make brackets.

In the process of molding the bezel. Should have parts listed in about a week.

Took a bit to get the face looking just right.

Very nice. Molded, huh, not 3D printed? So it'll have that smooth, somewhat glossy, black face? No sanding, no painting? Just pop the clips on the back mounting tabs and install it right out of the box? I like it.

Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken

We made a small change to the Camaro brackets and will get 100 of the new design on Monday. We added more adjustment so hopefully they will work on a Firebird. We will be able to do some testing next week with a 1982-84 Firebird bezel and will update on this thread.
