Is it possible to replace UQ7 amplifier with something newer?
Trying to get the UQ7 system in my 1984 Trans Am working. I replaced the surrounds on the factory subs and tested them so I know they work. I had thought the system wasn’t working because the ON / OFF switch was broken. I have since fixed the switch by 3D printing a new button. Finally tested the system again today but not getting any sound from the subs. I have two factory amps but neither is working I guess.
Has anyone tried replacing the factory amp with a newer compact amp? I found the one at this link that might work but not sure. Not a lot of space in the factory location and then would have to figure out how to modify the radio harness to have the rear channels become high end inputs for the amp.
All this work probably isn’t worth the effort. Was hoping to keep the car as stock as possible but fighting aging technology. If there’s no easy solution I might just buy a Bluetooth head unit and replace all these 40yr old speakers with new ones.
