I used to be able to build some great systems with super clear sound and some thump when wanted. But now there are much more options and methods.
I am planning the build for my 92. I have decided on Infinity Kappa speakers. A nice DSP. Not completely looking at subs or amps yet but there will be 2 12"s. I have built a few systems lately. 1 for my eldorado but its was easy. I retained the bose and added 2 15"s and ran everything thru a digital restorer. I put a Kenwood DMX7709 in my sons crew cab. Fresh 6.5s in all 4 doors, a 2500w ebay amp into 2 rear underseat downfiring 10"s.
My problem is coming from choosing a head unit. I always went Kenwood because it was the clearest I could afford. Now as I research everything is about the features. Nothing about actual sound quality. I obviously want to have bluetooth and some of the modern amenities. I would really like to have GPS on a double DIN. But I dont know what sounds good these days.
I want this beast to have amazing imaging and clear sound at higher levels. Do yall have any suggestions? Is there better brands I should be checking out?
Thanks for any help. Im pulling what hair I got left trying to find the perfect unit. lol
I've always had good luck with Pioneer HU's and have used them exclusively since the '80s. Their head units have enough audio control options that a DSP isn't needed.
I just ordered the DMH-2000NEX for my '91, it has a single DIN chassis so it will be an easier fit with the limited room in our cars. It also has wireless CarPlay & Android Auto, so you can use the navigation on your phone. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_130DM2...H-2000NEX.html
Buy old stuff. That's what I do and...it works. I have a 90's Alpine head unit, -in both my cars, actually....two 10ish year old, quality amps, modern subs, separates, crosses etc. etc. and it rips. The HU straightforward and easy to interface, works like it's supposed to w/o delays, interference, software engineers' f'ing it up with their "ideas" of base curves tied to volume, etc. etc. layers of screens to get to what you want....f- ALL that.
buy any 'name brand' head unit.
USE a dsp
infiinty cappa? theres much nicer stuff out there for cheaper
dont buy Ebay amps.
2 12s? its not 1989 anymore youd be amazed at what 2 6.5s or 2 8s will do nowadays
