about to toss HU from car while driving!
yes you read it right. My Kenwood Excelon KDC-PS909 HU decides to not light up anymore. Which is great because its the MASK (no the D-Mask so i can detach it), and its sealed with no screws. But heres the catch, its NOT the light bulb because when i let it lay flat like im going to eject a cd, it lights up ... WOW, a nice way of messing with me i guess. I wiggled it hardcore and then let the face close back to normal and it stayed on once till i turned the car off. Whats the deal? Anyone know why it would light up flat and not when closed (dont worry, i checked the obvious like illumination and all).

hate to say this but, I'd say it broken :-) unless there are some contacts on the face that make it light up when closed, if there is those could be dirty. sorry, also let us know what's going on if you find out
Hey man I hadn't even read this before I made my post about the same problem. Mine is a kenwood too and it only lights up and I can only adjust the volume when I turn the car off wait for it to flip and shove a cassette in it quick while i'm turning it back on. Even when I do this, all I can adjust is the volume. Its strange cause it worked good up until a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully somebody knows what we can do to fix it.
hate to say it but i got a kenwood that seems to be on its way to wat u guys got.. somtimes when im changin song or volume or even pushing a button.. it cuts out.. goes black. and cuts off.. but it comes back.. within a second or 2.. i have the HU listed below with the MASK crap. which i tink is the problem.. sounds like a contact or somtin...
plus it skips a whole lot .. like a piece o crap.. i dont htink ill get Kenwood again... shame cus its pretty good.. but this pissed me off..
:lala: What the fish is this thing ?

yup, CAMp3RO is right. Kenwoods have a round type plug .. looks like a old AT keyboard plug. Ex pioneers have a kinda small sqare plug. Will not fit, in turn makes me angry.
AND BY THE WAY PEOPLE. I figured out that its the wiring harness ribbon thingy doohickie...lol. When the faceplate is flat, theres no tension on the wires, but then it closes it pulls on them and shorts them out. I pressed on them with a knife and the lights were flickering so thats the problem. I just e-mails kenwood with a real butt kissing document so they shoudl give me some pointers. Ill post whatever happens for all you others with kenwood problems.
Its time for me to test the value of customer support that kenwood offers.

if they don't respond satisfactory, tell them you're gonna check them with that knife too...-hahaha-(just a suggestion...)
I hope you're gonna repair the damn HU soon.
If you decide to buy another brand, I heard Pioneer is the toughest(heard that AFTER I got my alpine...)

Right after mine went out I did the same thing. I went to the kenwood site to see if I could find anything out under troubleshooting or whatever, but there was nothing so I e-mailed them and told them how it had worked good for so long and how I liked it alot and that crap. Well that was last Friday so its been a week and they haven't responded. If you find anything out keep me posted man.
