Screw it I'm getting Q-Forms
Screw it I'm getting Q-Forms
I had a great thing going with desinging my own kick panels but I can't get the vinyl to stick how I want and it's not worth the headache to me. Anyone have any Q-Forms they want to sell for a good price? I'm putting in a 4 and a tweet. If I find a used pair with a hole cut out of them that is too big could I cut out peice to fit over the hole? Thanks.

If you already have kickpanels made, don't give up so easily, you got the hard part done!
As long as you are happy with the construction and design of your kickpanels, go ahead and finish them. What are you using for adheasive with the vinyl ? I use 3M Super 77. I also find that tweed is much easier to work with than vinyl and doesn't show minor imperfications like vinyl.
I'd love to sell you a set, but I'd rather help you finish the set you started.

You guys are right I'll keep at it. They look so sweet. I really want them wrapped in vinyl. I thought it would look better. I'm using that same 3m adhesive but there is a pretty deep curve that screws everything up. Maybe I'll look into that tweed or go to the fabric store and look for something easier than the vinyl. When I had a pair built a few years ago by a shop they had a vinyl glue that they spayed on with an air compressor and gun. That might be what I need.

When you put the vinal on, START in that tough location. Work from the deepest part of the curve and work your way out. Stretch the vinal over the convex parts, not the concave parts.

Are you vinyling the entire kickpanel ? Or just a pod built on the stock one ?
When I make mine, I tweed the entire thing. My guess is that you are having trouble with the big curve at the front, the part that meets up to the door sill. What I do is cut some plastic off the curve on the side that meets the door when closed. This makes the curve a little less drastic and easier to cover. It still takes a lot of stretching, and with tweed, I normally wet it to make it stretch a little easier, but cutting a 1/4" of plastic pff makes it that much easier.
What kind of vinyl are you using ? Go to www.selectproducts.com and look at there heat formable vinyl. Once you work with that stuff on complex shapes, you will not want to work with any other vinyl again!
I'd be interested in seeing pics of your kicks as well.

Thanks for the input. I tried the blow dryer trick but it didn't work well. That heat formable stuff might be what I need. Thanks for the idea. I took lots of pics of the stages of building them. When they are developed I will scan them on to a site.
