alpine 7863

I have decided I'm either going to buy this or the 7873. There is a guy on ebay saying that the 7863 has an 11 band eq built in to it. Is he nuts. I can't find info on this anywhere else. I think I'll still go 7873 for the extra preouts but I was wondering about this eq thing. I'm not so sure. I would think Alpine would've put this in their literature.

The 7863 has bass and treble, that's it. BUT, you can set the center frequency of each, along with the Q of the bass boost. It's really quite a useful eq. Instead of a useless 100hz bass boost, you can set the boost at 60hz, and instead of a 10khz treble boost, you can dial it up to 15k or 17.5k as well as vary the width of the bass boost. I'm quite happy with my 7863 and would much rather it over a 7873, but I sure as hell wouldn't buy it from an online dealer. You WILL NOT get a factory warranty on any Alpine purchased through the Internet. There's no point. My store sells it for $299, so I'm sure it can be found for that price elsewhere.

Is there really that much difference between the 63 and the 73 beyond styling. I know I should just look this up but since you deal with these things all the time thought you might tell me first hand.

The 73 does not have the same Bass Engine features, which is what the EQ in the 63 is part of. The 63 also has a built in high pass and low pass filter with selectable crossover frequencies along with more internal power, and the motorized tilting face. The 63 also has a **** instead of rocker switches for the volume, which was my primary reason for buying it. The 63 also has CD text, is AI-Net compatible (which gives you the option of an AUX input through the changer input) and comes with a remote control.
