Underdrive Pulleys w/stereo system?

I got my Power and Amp pulleys in today and im gonna put em on soon. They claim that power and amp pulleys will charge at idle and do fine with a 600 watt system. I just wanted some opinions on that. Oh by the way i got a 92 RS 305 TBI with a stock altonator. Any bodys battery go dead or alt. coulnt keep up when the system was on? Also how much gain did ya get from the pulleys?

I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone who has done this. I've only replaced the alternator once since I have owned the car brand new. However, the stereo has only been in it for about 3 years. I usually go through batteries every 2-3 years, but my alarm system is mostly to blame for that.

My alternator can't handle my system as it is. I couldn't imagine under driving it.

All u need is a capcitor and you will be fine, cuz the brunt of the power will be absorbed by the cap

The idea here is a larger alternator and the biggest battery you can cram under the hood or wherever.

A cap isn't going to do much if the alternator is outputting insufficient power. A cap helps maintain transients during bass hits, but your overall average power consumption doesn't change. Garbage in = garbage out.

My buddy has a cavalier and hes got 2 15" solo-barics. we were at a spl contest and the first run he hit a 145 with the cap and then he took it out and went back through and hit a 147.

If he "burped" the system for the SPL contest, the caps would have helped. If you play regular music for the competition, the cap will be an additional drain on your system after the first 1 or 2 seconds.

I have the pullies on my car. When I first installed them (before I had a stereo) I noticed a pretty decent improvement. It seemed to launch faster and pull through the power range better, but I don't have any numbers or anything like that.

Later I installed the system and I never really had a charging problem with mine and I was usually running at least 600watts and sometimes 1100+ watts. When I had it running at 1100+ and driving, I would notice a drop in voltage, but only when sitting at a light or something when the rpms were not above 1000 or so. Other than that, I really never had any problems. Now that I don't have a system, I really don't, but that is beside the point!

If you are going to be running 600 watts or so, you should be okay for a while, but I would definitely recommend looking into an upgraded alternator of maybe 130 amps or so, but it all depends. Check with a stereo shop for a better idea of how big to look at. I hope that helps.
