"AMP" Some quick questions about this I swear!
Well after I got everthing installed my old amp poped
"Screw it not going to mess with it, trashed" So I got this new one yea ive been making wall mart richer these past few days and got this jensen 300w amp. I just bought this amp to power the sub but it says I can run a tri-mode 2 6x9's and a singel sub, but I would need high and low pass filters. Is this tri-mode worth the effort?
If so how much do these filters cost?
Also I was wondering about the specs of this amp.
4ohms 75w per channel rms< 00.08% thd
2ohms 100w per channel rms<00.01% thd
4 ohms brideged 200w per channel rms< 00.01% thd.
From what I understand the lower percent of total harmonic distortion "THD" is better but all the higher end amps are like 0.1%thd what gives with the 000000 crap?
Thanks and this will be the last from me at the car audio board for awhile.

I'm curious about the freq. range of those power ratings. Is it 5-20K Hz, or 40-10K Hz, or what? It's unlike Jensen to have that little THD over a wide freq. range.
Plus they report less THD at 2ohms than they do at 4 ohms? That's bass ackwards. Usually (key word there) the THD is higher at 2ohms, (i.e. when an amp is briged) than at 4ohms. The amp looses stability and control under less load. Are you sure that's not .1% THD at 2 ohms? Or maybe less freq. range?
What gives man? Did I underestimate Jensen? Is there really life on Mars? If I fart in my friend's face while he's sleeping, will he still smell it?

Did it say that was the THD recorded AT the RMS power? Because if it doesn't directly connect the two (saying ".08% THD at rated RMS power" or something similar), they could be reading that THD at something like 20 watts, then cranking it up into distortion for their power ratings. So at 50 watts you may actually have 5% THD or something more. Just a thought, I'm not saying that this is what Jensen did, but there are many ways to manipulate your numbers.

Yea I know what you guys are saying my old RF amp
Had like higher THD than this one and it was only 180w total.
I cant find the online book so I'll type it.
Power output@14.4 VDC, 20-20kHZ
4ohms 75w per channel rms< 00.08% thd
2ohms 100w per channel rms<00.01% thd
4 ohms brideged 200w per channel rms< 00.01% thd.
Frequency responce.20 hz-20kzh "funky sign" + over a -.
Signal to noise ratio @rateed power>100db.
channel seperation @ ref power >65db 1kzh.
THD &IMD @ref power into 2ohms<0.1%
Speaker independence 2-8 ohms.
input independence 20k ohms.
Crossover frequncies Low/High 40-240hz.
Power Req 14.4 "10.8-15.6 VDC allowable.
The rest is just fuse type and dimentions.
From what I can tell this is just as good as a high end amp. ????
What do you guys think?

Oh yea Mike Im totaly on the same wave lengh as you as far as number manipulation, but if there correct we might want to check in with mr lucifer for skiing conditions

The only downside to that power rating is that it was taken at 14.4 volts, while the average car does something like 13.8 with the engine running.
Distortion below a few percent isn't audible anyway, so don't worry too much about all those little specs. And yes, that amp is going to sound just about as good as any other one with a fancy name.
I've installed plenty of those Jensen amps with no problems whatsoever. They don't always play as loud as their power ratings would suggest, but they still give you a lot of power for the money.
The tri-mode deal isn't worth bothering with, in my opinion. You can buy a passive subwoofer crossover for around $20-25. From there, you can simply let the 6x9s run full range, or wire a set of capacitors ($10) to keep a little bass out of them. (Of course, this is retail pricing...you could learn how to build these items from inexpensive parts.)
Or, as Jensen states on their website, you could run the bandpass box with no crossover at all if you really need to. Just hook up only the box first and take a listen...see if it sounds like crap with the amp's crossover turned off, which it probably will...if it sounds decent then you could hook the 6x9s up as well.

Thanks Chris, I was really wondering about the Tri mode and the filters.
I did get it installed last night and just turned down the bass to zero for the 4x6 and the 6x9's and with the punch of the sub it sounds ok like that, I just need to crank the output up a bit on the amp and I should be happy for awhile.
Thanks for the imput guys!
