Cassette to CD swap

I have a 92' Camaro, and am replacing the factory non-bose cassette stereo w/ the factory non-bose CD stereo. Does any one know if I can use the same wiring harness, or if I will need an adapter or redo the wiring?

Thanks...Alex

Actually, I just did that today. Got one out of a 97 transport. I have a 90 Formula, and the wiring is the same, but my power antenna won't go up for some damn reason. It will fit in the dash, but the brackets don't line up. I bent them back, and pushed the deck back further. Looks like it came that way. Good luck!

Alex,

I just received my non bose factory cd player today and compared it to my non bose cassette player.

Everything is the same in back but the cd player has an extra set of inputs (7 spaces with 5 pins) while my factory cassette player did not have any???

What are these extra pins used for?

Alex and crumblinghevens, did your factory cd players come with the extra set of pins?

My cassette had 4 sets of inputs (2 with 4 pins and the other 2 with 6 pins).

If this extra set is not used, what is it for? My camaro diagram shows only lists 14 wires for the 92 camaro radio.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Manny

cd-changer or steering wheel controls...maybe. It could be why my power antenna won't go up? That doesn't make sense though, because my factory cassette used the same harness and sent the signal when the deck came on. Right now I'm installing a generic alarm(enough to keep the ametuers[spelling]away), and also a toggle for the antenna. My deck might be different. let me describe: It uses the same harness so it plugs in, turns on, and plays music. BUT, there are extra pins not used in the same location. There is also the extra set of pins(picture looking at the back of the deck)in the center. And the antenna plug. Diagram---

Ant. extra what plugs in

Not sure how this comes up but I hope it helps. My deck sounds nice but gets crappy reception right now.

Topduarte-

I'm getting my CD player today (hopefully) so I haven't seen it in person, but the pictures I saw are just as you describe. Looks like it will work fine with no wiring changes, just some extra inputs available on the CD player.

Guys,

Thanks for the info.

I am at work now, so I do not have my deck with me but the extra set of pins on the factory cd player is not grouped with the other 4 sets.

Also, there is some indentations on the outside frame of the cd player that show a number and describe each of the wires.

I will see what mine says tonight and pass them on.

I will probably get anxious and hook up the cd player either tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for the info!!!

I just installed the new factory cd player and everything plugged right in but the cd player does not work?

Do I need some type of code to initialize it?

According to the seller (Chevy dealership n Ohio), it was never installed and sat in its parts dept. for the last 10 years.

I bleive them because it was sent in the orignal box from delco and wrapped in the orignal plastic and foam.

I am posting another topic on how to initalize it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated it!!!

Alex,

I got mine to work on Saturday after I reset the codes.

Can you make me a copy of the manual you have? I would really appreciate it!!!

Email me at mlduarte@earthlink.net and I can send you some money for the trouble and shipping.

Let me know!!!
