it depends. from what i heard, they are really great sounding. but if your car isnt a show car or detailed, cleand everyday, and you smoke in it, they dont last long. (where i from, most cars are dirty as hell and the deck are just shoved into the hole.

I just got my Nak CD40z, and I love it. It may not have all the extra features of the other units, but the sound quality is amazing. Furthermore, it isn't some gaudy-looking silver thing, it's clean and simple; it matches our cars. It almost looks stock.

I've got the CD-35z and love it!
Best SQ I've heard from a head unit.
And very good sound seperation from the cd player. Noises comes from all four points in the car. You'll hear sounds you never knew existed.
As for reliabilty....
I haven't had any problems with mine, but others have.
Those that did said Nakamichi took real good care of them.
As for features.....
True they are plain janes when it comes to the bells and whistles dept. Want that then go with pioneer or something in that nature.
If you want good clean sound without having to pull over the car to change the station then this is a good deck for you.
One feature you won't find on too many stereos is the midrange control that are on the Nakamichi units.
Most other brands only offer bass and treble.
Pair up the Nakamichi with some infinity speakers and you will be jammin!!

I personally like the Pioneer DEH series. They look great and have great sound quality. They have a lot of features....even some cool screen savers. At the local stereo places they say that is one of the top decks out there...well of course besides eclipse. I dont care for the looks of the Clarion Decks...therefor I would never buy one. I never heard of this Nak head unit. You can buy the DEH-P730 for around $400....and they say that is perfect for building a good system. If you want to go all out they make the DEH-930....it has an even clearer screen saver than the 730 and I believe it can play DVD's. If it isnt the 930...then it is the model higher that plays the DVD's. I saw this guy building a competition stereo and he used Pioneer. I am a pretty big fan of them....b/c they have an affordable price and they look great. I dont want to have some huge system so it will do just fine for me. I am thinking about getting Infinity 4X6's and 6X9's. Then I am going to buy a 1400 watt amp along with 2 12" Infinity Perfects. Tell me what you think of this system. Should I get another small amp to push my speakers? Oh yea...and Im getttin the Pioneer DEH-730 deck.
