lighting cap question???

lighting cap question???

I bought one of those lighting caps but my question is how do u charge it before u put it in. the instructios say use a resistor but mine never came with one. any help???

You could use a light bulb (wire it in series with the capacitor). It will act like a resistor, and when it stops glowing you know it's done.

can i run it from the battery with a light? ok and when it goes out it is done?

do i have to put a negative on the light bulb or i only connect the positve part?

I guess you could charge it off a battery, but to prevent draining the battery (unless the car is running) I would use a 12V power supply, such as a trickle charger. Just hook the + on the capacitor up to the + on the battery, - to -, and put the light bulb in there somewhere, in series with the capacitor...it really doesn't matter where though. So a wire goes from the battery to the light, another from the light to the capacitor, and another from the capacitor back to the battery. And once you get it charged up, make sure not to short it out...you'll get lots of fireworks.

just hook it up it will only spark a bit no harm done

keep in mind the last thing you hook uo will pit from the spark so use a cheap wire on a part that wont matter

also be prepared for some noise...i allmost crapped myself when i hit the connector on mine. mine made a loud boom
