JL or MTX subs
i'm planning to put a trio of 10" subs in my car.
ideally i would like to put 3 JL 10w3's with the dual voice coil but the price kinda put me off. on the other hand the MTX thunder 6000 12 ohm subs would be the "equal" to the 10w3's.
i just wanted some of your opinions on the 2 brands, anything is much appreciated.
thanks

I've never owned MTX, but I can certainly vouch for JL. They've never let me down for pure sound quality, if that's what you're looking for. Are the MTX ones really 12 ohms, or is that a typo. Seems a little high...
3 mtx 600 wont even compare to 3 w3's
i would look into 8000's to even be in the same league. unless you really want 3 subs, i would go with maybe 2 10's or 12's , it can save you enough money to move up to the jl's. 2 subs with the right install will slam in a f body big time.

I have 1 JL12W0 4ohm, and it POUNDS. I love JL and wouldn't consider anything else, but everybody has their own opinion. If cost is the problem with the W3's, I would get 3 W0's. I haven't listened to very many MTX's, but in my opinion, JL makes one of the cleanest sounding subs on the market. Also remember, subs will sound very different in a car than they will on a sound board in a store. Whichever you get, make sure you get a good box and don't get cheap on the amp, and I think you'll be really happy.

They make a w0 in 12 ohm models, so look at those as well. 3 in parrallel adds up to 4 ohms mono. That is what I would get, just because JL audio's tech support is so good (different options.... not just "1.5 cubic is optimal per sub" and your like "what if I want SPL? SQ? a little of both?")
And no, they wouldn't be the equal of the w3. The w0 is probably the equal, but the w3 is the top of the line stuff.

I think I'm just another one here loving my JL sub. I have one 10w6 now and it is much louder than my two MTX 6000 10s I was running before. Humm, seeing a trend here? You get what you pay for and if 3 10w3s costs too much, why not do 2 10w6? You wont be disapointed!!!!
Well I am a big fan of MTX, so I will vouch for them. The 6000's are really good speakers if you are on a tight budget, they are definitely one of the best in that price range. The 8000's are what I am putting in mine and they are awesome speakers, very capable of keeping up with the JL's.
