How is Memphis and Audiobahn for SQ???

Well I'm thinking of upgrading my current system to a Memphis Studio 4" component set in the dash or a 4" Coax. A Memphis Studio Midbass in place of the 6x9's. In the hatch I'm going to make a custom box that will fit two Audiobahn 12's (Aw-120SX), an Audiobahn Cap (1 farad), and a Memphis Amp (ST-500). Also in the hatch will be two Memphis tweeters pacing up torwards me. I am not going for SPL, just great clear sound at a reasonable price. If price wasen't a concern I would have CDT's. Tell me what you think...

Definatly don't put tweeters in the hatch. As far as Memphis and Audiobahn, I've heard good things about Memphis amps, but not much (good or bad) about their speakers. Also I've heard mixxed feelings about Audiobahn subs. If you can go listen to a few.

I have had my first experience with Aubiobahn this past weekend.

I was at a little car show, and I had the Z28 that I posted the pics of before (2 10" JLW3's). Next to me was another 4th gen with 2 12" Audiobahns (not sure the exact models) in a box facing off the hatch. Whenever she cranked it, the subs started to break up and just sound very, very, unnatural, where as my JL's got many more compliments.

Thanks for the replies. Mike where do you recommend putting the tweeters? I was thinking if I put them right behind my rear seats (where the lever is to release them) I will the sound comming from behind me rather than on the side. I'm looking for rear fill so do you think I should just lose 'em? Also DJ, I was at an audio shop and listened to 2 12" Audiobahns in a sealed box. I was pretty impressed. There quality was amazing even at high volumes, I don't know about the subs you heard they might have been a cheaper series. I do like JL subs though, my friend has two 12's and they sound nice. Also do you think I should buy some kicks for the front for what I'm looking for?

Kinda off this topic but what the hell. I just ordered a audiobahn AEX-350 Equalizer. It has a ton of great features and doesn't seem to be the cheap junky stuff people sometimes reffer to regarding Audiobahn. I think they are probably like most other companies. You can order the low line stuff and save $ or you can spend more and get a product that will make you happy. My EQ wasn't excatly cheap but it has everything I want. I don't know about their subs but I bet the low priced stuff probably doesn't do all that great but as you spend a little more it probably does alright. I like JL anyway.

memphis is way better in my opinion,,,,
I have 8 power bass 10's, two memphis 1000d amps,2 memphis power reference 4x6's,and a set of memphis studio 6.5's,,,it sounds killer,,and i always beat the jl and audiobahn stuff at the dbdrag comps,,,
just my 2 cents,,,btw,I pull 157.6 spl with the system,,and it only cost me about 2500 dollars for all of it,,,It just got completed a month ago, and i got alot of pictures of the whole process,,Iwas thinking of putting it all on a website.Would anyone
like to see this?

i too had my first audiobahn experience, and it taught me to go with what you know is good and reputable. i am staying with kicker and jl audio for now on. i have "the great" audiobahn aluminum, which when turned up distorted way too much for my tastes. and it was hooked to a good amp too. ( a fosgate power punch that my friend runs a 12w6 off of) sounded alright when you were in the car and the trunk was closed, but if you were next to the sub or opened the rear seat , the sub sounded like a$$.

Well in the past four months I've changed my mind to all Memphis. I'm going with 6.5's up front (maybe in kicks), two Studio 10's, and a ST250 & 500. The 6.5" speakers will be in this weekend.

Thanks tho....

I would say go with Memphis. I was using 2 1000D amps (until they got stolen), but they are amazing. For speakers, I am die hard Boston Acoustics. I have never heard better sounding components. My 2 12" Boston Pro subs were unbelievable. I could crank them without losing sound quality, and they could take all the power I could throw at them. Just something to consider.

I think the three-way bostons are good but for $700 you could do much better to my ears. I like CDT, a/d/s, Focal, and Memphis all of which IMO sound better than Bostons. They are good speakers though...
