What would be better in the sail pannles Boston Rx97's or RF cp8486's?
I have Boston RX97 3 way 6x9's in the car now and was thinking of changing them to RF CP8486 6 1/4. This is all stuff I have laying around. What would be better for mid bass and what kind power do the CP8486's need to run? The Bostons both have 1 tiny rip in the rubber suspension, I guess thats what its called, the rubber that surronds the speaker.
Thanks!
Thanks!
you'll probobly get better bass out of the 6x9's but if the 6 1/2 set are components, you'll get better overall sound. the rip in the rubber surround will only get worse and worse with use and start to sound bad. if the 6 1/2 set is components, use those . if not than use the 6x9's

Hell if that is the case, just hook them up and you tell us whats better. I mean thats the best way I would say instead of hearing this guy say RF sux and this guy say they rock. You be the judge for yourself.

The problem is making a structure for them to test which is better sounding. I'snt that easy to make a incert for 6in speakers then decside they suck after a couple hours worth of work

it should only take about half an hour to make the panels. replace them, and decide for yourself. I have fosgate 6 1/2 inch components in my sail panels mounted in MDF and they sound great. better than the Polk DB 6x9's I had in there before. try it and make our own decision

customize it for round speakers, whatever you do...
6.25" is a good size. who cares about bass, you can always add a small sub and run a cross over to your mids/highs,or use a capacitor inline with the + leads,I just did this to my friends rear speakers with a 470uF capacitor and it seemed to eliminate some bass caused distortion. I also plan on getting rid of the rear deck 6x9"s ('95 accord) and jig-saw some custom mounts for some old pioneer premier 3-way 130w max 6.25"s which I can garuntee will sound better than the decrepid low power, paper alpine 6x9"s he's got back there now, they don't even fit the stock 6x9 mounts properly! (no disrespect to alpine, but some of their speakers suck) when I put my Trans Am back together,I am using round speakers in the front, and customize the sail panel mounts to fit a good size round speaker,if I even need rear speakers (trying to lighten her up). last time I used the sail panels,I cleaned the metal off with some simplegreen* and sprayed on some generic undercoating (buget dampening material, cheaper than dynomat) that helped out, however I would have loved to have constructed an enclosure of some sort. making an enclosure out of most any material,wood,fiberglass,plastic,..whatever you use,it should be fairly easy with round speakers as long as you can calculate the volume to match the speaker and experiment with porting it for some bass response.
