Amp problem!

Hey all,
I was driving down today realizing that I was sounding quite weak. I was blasting it, but no bass!!
I check the back, and the amp isnt work!
**#@$*$*#$&#(^(
what now!?!
I got a KEnwood 600watt amp connected to 2x 10" Jensen subs.
I touched it, and it was freezing!
But its worked when it was cold before.
I had a Kenwood 350watt, that was in water, ice and still worked in the water, and while it was in ice. haha laughs :sillylol:

Please help! I am having the SAME problem. I have the new Jensen ATS 300W 2-Channel amp on a 6½ Polk comp set. It has been working fine until like last week. I noticed I cranked up the car... sub worked.. but speakers no go.... I took my cd out... put it back in.. speakers worked... Happened a few times.... then the other day... didn't work again... took cd out... put it back in... still no go.. so I turned my Crappy cd player off and on til it finally did... Now... the speakers won't work at all. So I switched amps so I could have SOME music... I put the RF Punch 100.2 on my comp set... and the 300W on my RF Punch HE 12" sub in the back. Here's what happens... I turn the car on... the cooling fan comes on.. but the power light doesn't come on. Neither does that warning light. I went up front and took my cd player out jiggled the wires around... still wouldnt' work... so I was like maybe it's a bad connection... so I switched the rca cables on the head unit... still nothing.. Any ideas to check my amp? I'm gonna hook it up in my friends car soon and if it doesn't work I'm calling Jensen

for both of you

It doesent sound like the amps are coming up. one suggestion woulb to key the car, turn on your head unit, and verify that you have 12 volts on your remote accesory line from the head unit. should be 12 volts. If it is not present then your head unit might be trashed. 2nd thing, how much equipment do you have your head unit turning on?. Let me know

I have no speakers hooked 2 the head unit. All I have is the Comp set up front running of the amp. I have 2 amps coming off of the cd player though. Only one of them doesn't work. The fan comes on... but power doesn't show up

So (for both of you), the amp turn-on lead IS getting power from the radio?

Do you guys have distribution blocks, with the large glass fuses? Check 'em. My amp was cutting out on some bumps, and would come back on. Finally I hit a bump, and the sound didn't come back on. I was pissed, and pulled into a parking lot. The turn-on LED was glowing very dimly- if it wasn't nighttime, I wouldn't have seen it. All the wires were tight; wiggling them didn't do anything. I was ticked, so I flicked my distribution block- the fuse glowed- another thing I wouldn't have noticed if it was daytime. I opened the d-block's cover, and lifted the fuse out.

One end stayed in the clip as I rotated the fuse up. I pulled to get the fuse out- and promptly pulled the end cap and center "fuse metal" out of the glass fuse!!

Somehow the fuse internally vibrated loose at one of the end-caps. A new fuse solved it. Just something to check! I told my MECP friend about my find, and he said he's seen that problem too many times to count.

I've had the same thing happen to me, the fuse didnt work but didnt "blow".
Check them, continuity test them.

Verify you have 12 volts going to amp, check all fuses, check connections to subs. If that is not it your amp might be in question.

I just checked the wires... I put spade connectors on all the wires... checked the ground... I switched rca cables from one amp 2 the other just 2 see if maybe it was a set of rca cables... still no go... I took the fuse out and checked it... it's not blown... it wasn't coming apart... I put it back in and moved it around... tightened up power wires.... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I hate this... I think I'm calling Jensen tomorrow

You said you checked the fuse.Did you just look at it or put it on a volt meter and check the continuity? Sometimes just looking at it is not the way to go. Verify it on a meter. Or if you do not have a meter put in another fuse

Well there's 2 different fuses... one is a bigger fuse for the bigger 300W amp... the other is a smaller fuse for the 100W amp

I have a 40 Amp fuse in the amp... then there's an amp on the distribution block... I don't have another fuse 2 put in it. I will go up 2 Pro Audio tomorrow and get them 2 check it for me. Hopefully we can figure out what's wrong. If not... well.. u know

This is probably an unnecessary suggestion, but did you also check the fuse by the battery?

I'm pretty sure it's fine because one amp works... it's just that one amp

I have the worst luck with my car... PERIOD... I took the fuse out and put it back in at least 3-5 times... I asked the guy up at pro audio if he'd look at it and he said he couldn't without an appointment... but after a while he said yeah i'll look at it real quick... he looked at it said it wasn't blown... he goes hang on a second... went in the installation place and came out with a voltage tester... he touched one end of the fuse... then the ground terminal... then the power terminal... then the other end of the fuse.. only one wasnt' getting 12 volts and that was the bottom of the fuse even though it was in right... he took it otu and looked at it... put it back in.. tested it... it worked... i turned the car on and i now have all my sound back! I bought an extra 40Amp fuse for $5 and good thing I did because once I got home and was at my friends house I went 2 take his sister somewhere and the speakers weren't on again just the sub... so I changed the fuse and I have sound again! Bad fuse I guess...

davecamaro problem

Dave, if the amp was cold it sounds like you should first check your fuses and power wiring. Next check for any bridged terminals at the speaker hook ups, as bridging here will cause the amp to shut down to protection mode. If the amp is operating and has power, you need to look further. Get a test speaker, and hook it directly to the amp. Works? That probably means you have a scuffed or pinched speaker cable that is shorting to the chassis. If it doesn't read on.

Next use process of elimimination. Pull your CD player, and hook the RCA cables to the other set of outputs on the deck and try it. If it works, your CD unit is at fault, if not, it could be the signal wires. Take a known good set of RCA cables you tested in your home stereo, and just run them through the car to the amp. Now try it. Still no sound, try the test speaker used above, and if it still doesn't make sound, I hope your warranty is still good, 'cause you probably need a new amp.

If it does work, you need to carefully check and or replace all wiring to the amp. I worked for 3+years as a mobile electronics installer, and faulty wiring is responsible for over 90% of troubles, in my experience. Feel free to e-mail if you have questions or want more details.
