plexi glass
can i bend it using a heat gun?
will it still look clear?
i'm making a plexiglas coverd amp rack for the trunck.
i'm talking about a curved top
the top would be 1/6in or 1/8in thick the sides 1/4. and i'll be cutting 2 holes(fans).

My honest GUESS would be no...I don't think you can heat it and bend it without distorting the hell outta it and it turning white. This is a guess though...
I DID find out you can cut it very easily with a jigsaw...the top of my amp board is plexi and looks awesome...and no one said I could cut it that easy

Yes you can bend plexi using a heat gun. You can generally do up to 1/4" plexi by hand and obtain good results.
A few things to remember, do not over heat to the point that it bubbles the inside...do not try to bend it before both sides are sufficiently heated (will develop internal cracks)
During heating you may see the plexi frost slightly, but normally it will clear as long as you followed the above precautions.
Test out on scrap pieces to become comfortable with the right point to bend and then go to your production piece and you'll be fine.
Have fun.

<FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Tahoma"><font color="#000000"><font size=2>Redcamaro83....Hi. I talked to my plastic specialist just for you.:-)He said to use polycarbonate. You can heat and bend that with less problems. The plexi @ 1/16 (i think that's what you meant) or 1/8 might work if you heat it on a form, but you'd need to let it cool on it and there's still a chance it'll distort. So.....try the poly! GOOD LUCK!

Here is a thread that I would suggest you read from over on the termpro forums.

This covers everthing from types of plexi to handling, cutting and even making your own plexi bender from an old space heater.

Polycarbonate AKA Lexan is what the banks use for bulletproof glass. It doesn't bend as well, it doesn't polish the edge, and less places carry it (and it scratches easier). Go to the post mentioned below. Lots of pointers.
