Best system for playing rock?
Best system for playing rock?
Ok, I don't want a system that is going to cost me $1000. I just want a nice little system that will pound. The guy at sears told me to get 2 10" subs and a Jenson 500 amp. And a Xplod deck. If anyone has any objections and knows anything better please tell me.

Depends what you classify as rock
Metallica(old) Slayer, ect.. The harder stuff you want (ONE) good quality 10 with higher sensitiveity levels than a ghetto blaster.
Two tens will thump loud but in a rock situation where you want more of the bass drumb than Boom Chiccka Boom one ten will work very well.
Newer rock
you could get away with two because the music is more bass dependant than the old stuff, If your cranking up LimpBiz two tens work well.
Power wise I run a jensen 300 watt amp to one ten (great amp) and it has to be turnned down all the way because it over powers the suronding componets.
Now that thats said. If I were you I would invest in some good quality 4x6's and 6x9's they really help bring the faster pace music to life.
Good Luck!

Plans: Possibly add N20 for next season.
82 Firbird, rebuilt 355 for it and slaped a 700r4 in. The 700r4 crapped out so back to the tb350

With out a doubt, beef up the 4x6's and the 6x9's before you get a sub. And yes, amplify them. The head unit will not be able to put out enough power to make the 6x9's thump. Some people say that it will, but as you will see, you almost don't need a sub when you have decent powered 6x9's. Later on, you'll be fine with one ten, and around 100, to 200 watts. I have a single ten inch in MTX in a bazooka tube that just rocks. I listen to all different types of music, and wow!! I dig it.

Actually, you can make 6x9's thump with just a head unit. It depends on the speaker brand, wattage of the head unit, and how tunible the controls are (bass, treble, etc), and how the speakers are mounted.

I listen to rock most of the time from classic to hard to modern to metal and what i use is a 7300 pioneer deck boston 4x6 pioneer 6x9 1,audiobahn 10inch tube and a M25 amp to power the tube. The bass drum shakes the hell out of my car.Rap and dance sounds great also.........

i'm trying to make a budget SQ system myself, but also a rock listener. if you look online, you can find many places with sweet deals. i picked up an alpine type-r 12" (great sq with some spl along with it) for $130 shipped. i agree with amping the front 4x9". i've got the kappa plates and they sound great. if you like doing some tweaking, pick up an in-dash eq. it'll help you get a better sound.

Actually Ive heard some 6x9's thump off of the head units power. But they were in boxes made for the particular speaker and the amount of power running to them.
Eh, but were sail's here so the best bet is to amp em up.
