Problem... Help me out!
Heres my setup:
power is run through a relay, connected to a switch... switch is thrown, power is sent to a 4 port fuse block then to the amp and the crossover.. That is the power aspect.
Subs are spliced off of the rear speakers and into a line level converter. The converter is then run into the x-over and out the "low-freq" output, then to the amp, then to the subs.
Heres my problem.
Basically this is the same setup I had in the Camaro, yet it seems as though it can't get as loud (without distortion from the subs).
What could be the problem? What would you suggest.
My deck doesnt have pre-outs.
There are gain controls on the amp, the x-over, and the line level converter.
How would you guys suggest setting these to get the least distortion.
thanks,
Daniel

Just get a pre-out converter from crutchfield or somewhere like that. Or, I *think* you could just put RCA's on the speaker wire. Dont quote me on that tho. Otherwise, do what I do. I run the front speakers off the deck, and I ran the preouts to the amp (4 channel), where I run the rear speakers off the amp, and my 2 subs off the amp too. That way, you can turn the rear speakers down to the level of your deck, and turn your subs up. The amp has a crossover too, so it should get rid of the distortion. just my .02

I would just run front speakers and then wire the rear to the x-over and then to the subs. Keep in mind that you have a 4 ohm load. You "can" run RCA's into speakers but it requires a connector or some rigging. Keep in mind that the inside of the RCA connector (female part) is positive and the housing around it (male part) is negitive. Both + and - are carried in the same strand reather than sperate like your speaker cables.
Why not just buy an amp?

Are you running main power for the Amp and X-Over through this switch you speak of? Is this because you have no remote turn-on wire? What kind of car is this in? Wire thickness? Equipment brands?

I figured out the problem.
I almost want to kick myself, but apparently when I was reinstalling one of the subs into the box, I crossed the speaker terminals, so when I wired them to the amp they were wired out of phase.
Problem solved!
My back messager is now fully functional! :hail: :lala:
