HELP!! NO THUMP!
HELP!! NO THUMP!
I need your help, I put in a stereo system with my friend the other day. With 2 12"s in the hatch. In his car (he had a trunk) they thumped damn good! In my car they barely thump. How do I get them to work right? We were thinking seal them inside the well, so its enclosed? I need some input........
Thanks
Thanks
Did you use the same amplifier? What about the enclosure: same one? Ported or sealed? We'll need to know more before we can answer!
I'm guessing it's amplifier power, but if the subs were in a ported box in a trunk, you'll get the "cabin effect" causing some horrendous thump. The same box in a hatch would not benefit as much from the ported arrangement, but the difference shouldn't be so noticeable as to warrant a post here!

Are the subs in a box, or free-air? If they are in a box, and the box is sealed, then they should thump, as long as you are running enough power to them. If they are free-air, then you have to run a signifigantly larger amount of power to the subs in order to make them thump.
Was you using a Plate in your car and not a Box?

I have a hatch box and it had sub ports but I put wood over them to seal the box. I have them facing down (towards my gas tank) in the well. How can I get more THUMP? it sounds like **** ;(
you can't just cover the ports on a ported box to make it sealed. Ported boxes are typically bigger than a sealed. What kind of subs are they ? How much airspace is recommended for them. Remember, install is everything.

Please don't take critisizm from this, but do you have the wires running the right way?
Sometimes if you accidently hook up one of the speakers wrong (+ wire to - terminal & vise versa) then they'll be running outta phase. IE, cancelling each other out.
After years of doing this, about the 3rd time I did that, I finally learned the 'measure twice-cut once' rule.

thats just what i was about to type. Being outta phase would make you hear the bass but not feel it

I took the subs out of the box and I am putting them in my well, then I am going to put wood over the top of the well so its flush with the rest of the hatch... Thus, resulting in thump
