Nice! Thats the kind of setup I'm going to be doing, except my amp is going to be set into the box with plexiglass covering it...cooling fans to cool it.

just curious... do you have a partition inside the box or is it one big open area?? Not sure what the exact specs are for your sub, but it looks like that the volume of the box is wayy too much

EDIT: Oh Yea. Instead of my amp being where yours is, mine's already under my passanger seat. A nitrous bottle is going back there instead!!!!!!

That's not too much for a 12". And if you like low, smooth bass, then a little bigger is better than smaller.

AJ
I'm just finishing a box for my '92, and his is a bit larger than mine. Mine is a little over one cubic foot, so his can't be too big. I am also making a deck to mount my amps and Xover, as well as my 6x9s. When it is totally finished, and I am happy with the way it sounds, I'll put the specs up here for anyone who wants 'em.

wow, i feel special. i've got replies! jk.
the amp is there temporarily. awaiting the arrival of my new one, at that time both of my amps will be mounted in the back seat. The rack is about half way done.
there are no partitions inside the box, just a few pieces to reinforce.
the box does not go completely to the bottom of the well, kinda wedged in cause the bottom is slightly too wide (but no problem). the top sits slightly above the two ledges, but i should be taking care of that soon.
i agree that a bit bigger is better than smaller. these subs do great in the 1.0-1.5 cu ft range. i have some polyfill in there right now, but i think thats overboard and will be taking it out when i go to carpet the box tomorrow (more pics when i get done)
thanks everyone. i'll try to have the specs up soon.
Dan
sorry, almost forgot. you can get mdf at lowes or home depot for around $4-6 a sheet. 3/4 is the best to use, most of this box is 3/4. however, do to the amount of trial and error i had, i have some 1/2 in it too. 1/2 is fine if you brace it so it doesnt flex. i tried to use the least possible. glue and screws, same. i bought silicon to seal every joint also. got mine at a auto store.

ok, just a bit of an update. the internal size appears to be slightly over 1.0 cu ft (and i mean slightly), so it just looks big i guess. i thought it was bigger inside too, guess not. I was able to get carpet at pep boys 3 f by 6 ft for $10. however, I bought too dark of a red, so i gotta swap it. gonna give it another shot tonight. also gonna see how it sounds without the polyfill, kinda like a before and after
What do you guys use to apply carpet to the boxes? I have some carpet for a box and i am not sure what to use to stick it on there. I am making a new box for my dads bird. He doesn't want to spend much on audio so the stuff in the car isn't great. He is more into the engine. I on the other hand am going to put an awesome stereo in my car when i get it. Thanks.

i used some small little nails and tacky glue. tacky glue worked realllly well on holding the edges down. when i get home, i'll pick up the sheet i made of all the sizes. they are kinda rough, but give the general idea. nothing ever comes out the size i want it too.....

from all the literature and all the reviews i got, i knew the R12 was the sub i was looking for. the only other one that would be on my list would be the Adire Shiva. the R sounds beautiful. its got some nice punch and even with that puny 300 watt mtx amp (sub has an RMS of 300 watts per VC) this thing can rattle things in my house. i cant think of any better sub for the price (paid $130 at i believe thezeb.com) that the R12 or the Shiva. anything else even close is $300+. you wont be let down if you're looking for a great SQ sub with a bit of SPL to kick around.

I had made mine somewhat similar. Except I went a little talled and made the sealed volume a little smaller, actually right at about 1.0. I've switched both amp and sub since the pic was taken, but you get the jist.
Myself i love my Type R 12's iam running them with the mrv757 and iam hitting 146.8 or so, i would strongly recommenc porting the box, expecialy if you are playing them and the sub is moving lots, i figured that ports would make it worse but now mine hardley move.

yeah, sorry i'm taking so long with the specs, lost my sheet and stuck at school for a while
. but that is the plan i stated with. i built the lower part of that box and angled it up large enough to fix the basket of my 12 in.
how cute, we've got twins hehe

I don't suppose you would happen to have any pics of the inside of the box w/o the top so I can see where you put your re-enforcements. (im not good at reading blue-prints
) Howabout like step by step pics of the box in progress?? And will that fit in my 89 RS? Thanx for any info, and I LOVE the box man. Oh, did the poly-fill make any difference?

the box is in an 89 rs actually, but it should fit any of the 3rd gens, especially seeing i had to clear the larger bump up top cause i have (had) the power hatch motor setup. i had some other pics of the inside, but my family computer had a virus and ate em all. even had step by step..... grrrr. i really need to find those specs, but i'm stuck up here at school for another few weeks.
PS. also awaiting my new addition. the US Amps got sold (it was dying on me and i didnt want it anymore) and just purchased a new Ample Audio A240. mmm, 800 watts to that type r should get some movement outta that sub

So do your mirrors rattle and stuff around the rear view mirror swivel and change bounce and all that good stuff with that box? I have a relativly small setup, but mine does all that with the box I have and where it is now. I have a 12" 400 watt RMS sony Xplod 1200 watt peak sub with a Xplod 190X2 or 380X1 RMS bridged (which is how I have it ran) The box is out of my old S-10 and I have it tyed in the back so it don't slide. A friend told me that with the way it is slanted it is firing right into the back window making it hit harder. Is this true? Here's a picture to show ya what im talkin about. This is an old sub, my newer one is better.

tyhe blue circle area is actually a little bit of my hidden stuff. what i did was cut out a large wooden disc to fit in my spare tire. thats where i have, for the time being, my distribution blocks. i have the panel off because the wires on the US Amps ampwere too short for me to be able to put the panel back on. one of the reasons why i sold the amp. when my new ample audio amp arrives, i'm gonna finish up my rear seat amp rack and the distribution blocks will fit in there. also plan on possibly upgrading to 1/0 ga cause www.delcity.net has welding cable (nearly identical to car audio wire) for around $1/ft. the box is shorter on one side than the other because the ledges are not symmetrical in our cars. one sticks out further than the other. i also needed one side bigger to fit the basket of the sub.

So does the box fit clear across the car or does it stop short and have a little gap on one end? I would like to see some other pics if you can find some too.

Does anyone else have pics of this box from different angles, not just from the top, and at least 1 of the inside of the box? I am kinda confused w/ the plans (can't read plans for crap) and some other pics would help. CAMp3O lost his.

Anybody ever think of putting a bass reflection system inside of the box? You know how some of the bose speakers do. I wouldnt know exactly how to do that on that box and would probably go throght alot of trial and error but I think it would be worth it in then end. You would have two bass ports on the other side just make sure no one sets thire beer there thinking its a custom coozie holder.

the box pretty much fits exactly to the bottom part of the well. the top rests maybe 1/4-1/2 an inch above the two ledges, but thats it. it fits right in between them, so both are still seen. next time i go home (which may be a few weeks...), i'll try to get some more pics. got some new additions and changes for the system anyway. there should be some more views if you check out my site on sounddomain:
