I just recieved a factory Cd player from a friend of mine. When I put the power to it a Locked code came up on the LCD window. I asked my friend about it but he had no idea what the code pass word is. Is there a way to get the pass code or is the radio junk?

Go to the local dealership and tell them about it . It is a password given by the dealership, it also happens when the battery goes dead sometimes. You have to go to the dealership HE bought the car at I think. Good luck

Thanx for the one reply on this.
The car was bought used & it wasnt bought from a GM dealer. Anyone here works for GM in regards to the way the dealership would handle a radio that came out of a newer vehicle installed in a older vehicle?
thanx

You could try calling the local GM dealer with the numbers on the stereo. Usually, though, they need the VIN from the "donor car". It is kinda wierd, though. I got the stereo from a 96-98 Impala, and it did not need a code. Powered right up with no problems.

Even if you don't have the VIN, the dealer can help you. They have a "Master Code" that will bypass the regular one. I don't know if they will actually tell you what it is, but they may do it for you if you keep your eyes closed.

Actually any good stereo shop may know it as well. Try them also.

On the subject of GM Theftlock radios and unlocking them:

You need to install the radio and either call the dealer or stop at the dealer and they can unlock the radio, if they know what they are doing. Smaller dealers have a less likely chance that they know how. But all should.

To get an unlock code from the radio you need the 6 digit code out of the radio, and the dealer has to translate that into a 4 digit code that you can enter into the radio.
To get the 6 digit code you push and hold the preset buttons 2 and 3, the first three digits will come up on the display. Write the first three digits down. Then push the am/fm button, that will get you the last three digits. Then call around to see if you can find a GM dealer that 1. Knows what the hell you are talking about (UNLOCK WHO? might be a normal response from most dealership employees as they have a hard time setting up their VCR to record when they are not at home). 2. Someone who is willing to work with you over the phone. If one wont do this over the phone, then you need to make friends with someone at the dealership (Parts guy maybe). Some people get touchy about this stuff due to the fact that it is an anti-theft measure.

Once you get the four digit code enter it with the hour and minute buttons, then push am/fm buttons and turn on. WARNING IF YOU TRY MORE THAN THREE TIMES AT ONCE IT WILL LOCK THE RADIO OUT AND TO CLEAR IT YOU WILL HAVE TO LEAVE THE IGNITION ON FOR AT LEAST 1 HOUR. Good luck! Tim.
