Sony X-plod System - What Mods Needed?

I'm planning on putting a Sony X-Plod head and speakers into my car and i was told you have to use a special wiring harness for the speakers and head, is this true? Is it a bolt-in affair or what? I'm clueless, this isn't a small block...

For the love of Audio, please, please listen to something else before you buy that crap.

Anyway, A sony deck requires the same wiring harness that any other deck would.

Hey Jim85IROC, does that apply to their amps also?

We never sold a single one of them, so I don't know what their reliability record is like. We centered our sales around our Alpine and Rockford amps because they had a proven track record.

the equipment is not the best. however, i have not had a problem from them over the years. i did own an older sony mobile es amp and one of the first xplod 4-ch amps. no problems, but there is much better out there for equal or less money.

The older sony stuff seemed to be of much higher quality than their xplod stuff. I have great faith in the older sony decks and amps. I have no faith in the new stuff.

:sillylol: I knew Jim would be the first to reply to this. Did you go listen to some Sony stuff and decided you liked it or did you just think Sony is good? Sony Car speakers may be the worst out there, but they are marketed right so people still buy them. Go listen to some real speakers and you'll see or hear why Sony doesent have a good reputation with Car Audio.

That's an understatement. We had a set of X-plod 6.5" coaxes in the board and they helped me sell dozens of pairs of Boston and Alpine speakers.

Honestly... I'd start with those speakers in my demo, and just when they got used to them, I'd switch to *anything* else, and it was almost always a guaranteed sale.

I just bought a 12" Xplode sub this weekend and I have to say I'm extremely happy with it. It replaced an Infinity Kappa. I don't know if the box matches the sub better or if the sub is more efficient with the power but it really sounds great.

The Kappa then went into my daily driver to replace the POS Rockford Fosgate. And it sounds much better. Both are powered by the same model MTX amp.
