89 Convertible Stereo Speaker Suggestions

Okay, I put in some 5.25" speakers in the backseat area to replace the blown factory speakers. These are rattling everything. I think it is because it is just screwed into the "cardboard" siding inside the back seat area.

Anyone have any ideas of how to get a decent sound out of these without rattling everything. Just to give you an idea, I am only powering it with a Pioneer 50Wx4 head unit (no amps).

My thoughts were to get a nice sub in the trunk and disconnect those altogether, but I don't know how that would sound. Just go with the 4x6 in the dash and the subs.

Any better ideas?

(I don't want to have overwhelming bass, just a good crisp sound)

Travis,
When I installed the system in my 'vert, I put some home insulation behind the speakers to prevent that. It works great, no rattles or anything. I'm also running a bass tube in the trunk, nothing massive either. The sound is great, but when you put the roof down, you'll probably have to turn up the bass gain in the sub to compensate. Such as life with a vert!!, but I wouldn't trade it for a thing!!!!

thanks for the idea. I think I located and remedied my problem, still looking for suggestions for the overall sound system, though.

My car is my "fun" vehicle, so most of the time I'll be driving with the top down.

how much room you got back there? enough for 6 1/2s?? I hope so because that i what i want to put in there. Also an extra set of speakers never hurt anything. Get sexys(?) kicks and some speakers, AMP THEM ALL, you can get much high volumes then, I dunno about you but it is nice to hear you system on the highway. I am gonna put in two 12s in teh trunck of my vert.....WTF i don't use it anyway......LOL.....FUN FUN FUN blastn you system in the sun. then the guy next to you at a light gets annoyed and starts yelling thinking he can be heard over your exhaust and system combined

I'm not sure if 6 1/2 will fit because of the way that the metal is formed right behind the speaker. You could mount the speaker lower, but then the some of the sound would be blasting into the backseat arm rest. If you have an old 6 1/2 laying around, you can undo the 8 screws to take the panel off and then see if the 6 1/2 will fit. At this point (without a job), I am looking for the most economical way to get a decent sound and right now w/o a sub and the 5 1/4" I can hear the stereo going 70 MPH with the top down and no distortion. No Amps. Just a 50x4 head unit. Obviously the sub will be amped, but right now, not the other speakers.

My CD-35z only puts out 43 watts X 4 and I'm very pleased with the volume going 85mph on the freeway.

Sometimes it's not how much power you are pushing to the speakers, but how well the speakers handle the power they are getting.

I'm very pleased with my stereo setup and I paid under $500 for everything. It's definately not the loudest out there, but it's very crisp and clean sounding, not to mention a great sound stage and stereo seperation. When we pop in a DDD recording cd, there are little background noises flying around the car. We are looking around all the time wondering what that sound was, just to find out it was on the cd after playback.

Got one cd where there is a real faint siren in the music. It begins in the drivers rear speaker and then travels forward and across the dash. When we first bought this cd and listened to it we almost pulled over thinking a emergency vehicle was coming.

Each to his own, that way everyone is happy.

Yes, my Alpine/Infinity CMMD setup sounds GREAT....well in the coupe it did, but that was because i did not have to "RIG" up the 6x9s in a box to sit in the back seat . That is why I am looking for speakers for the back. I think I will get some 5.25 and some 6.5 kicks....or r DJ's 5.25?? What ever....then 2 12s Type Rs back there......that should sound good top up or down.
