wire for power antenna is which ?

the small pink wire ? i put tape deck am.fm reciever from 84 firebird into the 84 Z28 and it does not pick up any stations, its completely dead air, just static, and antenna does not come up, all there was on back of reciever to plug the pink wire on car into was a gray one, but i dunno if thats meant for power antenna or if the pink wire in car harness is even antenna

ideas ?

thanks for anything

Are you sure you have a power antenna?

I see you just purchased this car, so I was just wondering.

Well I think its the Pink/white stripe wire, but not sure.

All I can say is look through the fender to where the antenna is, and see what color the wire is. Spray it down or whatever you have to do to see what color it is.

Then put it on the remote wire (if your radio has it) or on the ign. wire. The only problem with putting it on the ign. wire is that when the radio is off the antenna will still stay up. But when you turn the car off it will go down. Its up to you.

doesnt matter to me, i would be happy if it stayed up, i dont care, just as long as it works, although I am unsure how they work,

how do they work anyways ? does it take a charge of power to make it extend and another to make it descend ? or constant
power to keep it extended ?

thanks! i wil tackle this tomorrow if is not raining stil....

Hey man, did you try to take the panel off under the dash in the passenger side foot well? You should see the black antenna wire, and maybe, just maybe, the power antenna wire will be with it.

There should be a whole mess of wires under there, most for the ECM, but you could get lucky.

yeah, youre right, I may get lucky there under the panel,. hmmm i never got to mess with it today, i did start clenaing out and selaing the roff body to t tops weatherstripping channels vallies on the car today though, used black rtv on pass side and ran out cuz i thought one tube would be enough, but wasnt, so i had to use tub and tile caulk on drivers side... I used masking tape to keep the stuff off the paint, so far so good, next is to seal the hatch hinges and finsish selaing in the center rear of the T bar where both tops openings come together, big gaps there...
then wait for rain and pray.. wa slots of rust and wet still in the tops stripping seals channels where body panels pinch weld around the openings, thats not a good thing, rust rust rust...
i hear silicone is bad for metal in that it traps moisture inderneath and causes rust too... but what else can be done,,,, there is another thread regarding hatch hinges and some type of GM brush on type of sealer, i need ot find that thread and get some of the stuff tommorrow, maybe somone reading this knows off hand wehat its called ?

thanks

I know how you feel on sealing the T-Tops. I sealed and sealed, and to tell you the truth they still leak every now and then. I found in my trials that most of the water comes from the spot where the black T-Bar meets the body. Make sure that spot is sealed up. There is a tech article on this if you need more info.

As far as silicone being bad for anything, I have never had a bad experience with it. Silicone keeps water out, not in. Now somebody will try to give some scientific explanation, but I'm not buying it. But, you should have went and got some more RTV, it just might look tacky with two different colors. Dont worry, the silicone comes off really easy (if you want to take it off), just rub it with your finger really fast and it will come off. That didnt sound good.

Oh BTW, why do you think the hatch hinges are leaking? Just wondering. I mean, do you know for sure the Hinges are leaking?

It is usually from the T-Tops leaking, which drips down the sail panels into the backseat.

i've have problems with the hatch, too. i'm still in high school and Monday of this week, after spring break, i went to get my notebook out of the spare tire well and the thing is warped.. like it was sitting in a puddly of water for a week........ nothing else seemed damaged though?????? I also have leaks in the t-tops, on the inside... my car has every option, so it has all the finer-roll meters like "service/celebration/etc" you know what i mean? anyway, it was raining one day, i get in my car, and look at where the power window buttons are and there's a big F'off puddle there!! i look up and the roll meters had drips on them.

LOL, yeah mine stay on the Celebration/Trip settings.

Who knows when they worked last, probably when the Computer was taken out.

They just remind me I need to party soon.
