conversion to carb complete!!!
Well, it took a week of spare time work but my IROC finally doesn't have to put up with computerized TBI B.S. anymore. Just raw power. The major changes I have noticed are:
quicker and more powerful throttle response,
a SMOOTH idle - I never had that with TBI,
more power at higher RPMs
I havent had to adjust anything but the timing and it runs excellent.
If you are thinking of switching, do it. You will be happy you did. I played with my TBI setup on a 383 for almost a year and NEVER got near as much out of it as I have with a few simple changes.

88 IROC
383 stroker
9.5:1 flat top pistons
hydraulic cam
Dart Sportsman heads
tall chrome Edelbrock valve covers
Edelbrock 750cfm carb
Mallory AFPR
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
14x3 K&N open element air cleaner
Taylor 8mm spiral core wires
MSD Pro Billet HEI distributor
MSD 6a box
Hooker 1 5/8 headers
True duals
TH 350 transmission
2.73 gears (next thing to be changed to 3.42)
quicker and more powerful throttle response,
a SMOOTH idle - I never had that with TBI,
more power at higher RPMs

I never had my car dynoed with TBI, so I couldn't say in those terms. What I can tell you is that my wheels want to spin whenever I step on the gas normally...something I had to TRY to do with TBI by punching it. I get second gear scratches without trying...again, something which took a conscious effort with TBI. What really blows me away is that I just got it all together and it runs this much better. All I have tinkered with is the timing, no carb tuning yet (maybe not really needed if it runs this great). But I am new to carbs and I know there are things I'll learn to do to fine tune it for even better performance.
The TBI board has labeled me as a quitter, traitor and a pansy. I HAVE quit traveling the truly endless journey to find real power with a TBI, it just isn't there to be found. I have defected to the winning way to mod a car. As far as me being a pansy, I'm sure it is just wishful thinking of the gayrod who said it.

Good deal!
The butt dyno is the only one that matters
As far as they guys in the tbi board go. They are right a tbi can produce a large amout of power but for tbi's cash=power, time=power. The time and the money arent worth the effort with a tbi unless you have no choice, emmisions "BS".
Rip em up!

Which Edelbrock carb, 1407? Which rods and jets, stock? Can you take a look at your primary squirter, what number is on it?
Thanks, still tuning my 1411 on my 383 here in Tucson.
