What does the Performer RPM intake do for me?

Ok, I have a performer RPM intake on my LG4 coupled to an Edelbrock 1406 Carb, so what exactly does this do for me over the stock setup power wise? Do I get more Hp, Torque or both? How much of a gain is it?

My other question: Does the performer intake bolt straight up to Q-Jets?

Thanks in advance.

I think for your engine an edelbrock performer and not the performer rpm would be better. But if your future plans include more mods (or a modded 350)I would stick to an rpm instead of the performer. If I am correct on this I think the perfomer rpm would need an adapter for a Q-jet.

I actually just think it's a plain performer intake... The previous owner made several modifications to the car and some of them he didn't tell me about... how could I tell if it's performer or RPM?

What benefit does it have for an otherwise unaltered engine?

Also, there are four other bolt locations which would lead me to think it can handle a q-jet... Anybody else know more about these intakes?

If your hood closes its a performer
lol

I dont know if a performer rpm will clear a stock hood.

Ok, sounds like a good test... I have 2" clearance w/3 inches of pro-flo air filter.

So what is the benefit? Does it add Hp or just help other mods make more Hp?

The names are cast right into them pretty clearly.

Nothing. I found that "stock replacement" manifolds do little or nothing over the actual stock manifolds on an LG4. Although on a 350 with better flowing heads they will improve RPM potential. I just put an action+ "same as performer" on my firebird "82 LG4 carb" I was runnning an adaptor plate with a 600cfm holley. The only gain was 1in of vac at idle, but since my manifold gaskets were leaking oil through the bolts so I contribute the vac gain to the manifold being sealed now. As far as qjets are concerned they should bolt up to your performer thier should be 2 sets of holes per corner on the manifold, if so then all carbs fit it, excluding 2 bbls.

So, it all depends on the flow that I plan to pass through it? If I had an engine that wanted more air then it would fulfill the needs better? In other words, further mods will not be limited as much as the original manifold? Since I am slowly finding mods hidden here and there, would it be reasonable to think that the previous owner might have done some internal work?

I still need to get this car to the track, at least put it on the dyno... cause this car feels kinda fast for an LG4... I'm interested to see, but I won't get my hopes up...

Your best bet would be a dyno then you can have proof thats undisputeable.
The aftermarket "stock replacment" manifold basicly allows you to have a better choise of carbs. If you want more power from what you have I would suggest that you invest in porting your heads and geting headders. The performer does flow more than stock but if that air cannot have a clear path to the comustion chamber it does no good. Your next step would be to get headders so the exhaust gases can be explled better, a more "free flowing" system all around. If the previous owner did mod the car he/she most likely changed the cam to a bigger one and with exhuast, intake and heads flowing freely the cam can reach its potential and all the bolt on parts actualy do something besides look cool
It's a give, give, give and then gain process, anyone who thinks they can bolt somthing on and gain major HP is a fool.

82 Firebird, 305/350 currently moth balled.
Current plans: Rebuild 305 with flat tops instead of the dished "cups" for pistons or slightly built 327 with the 58cc heads from the LG4, Upgrade the 2:73 to 3:73 or 3:42 and replace the turbo 350 with 700r4.

So here I am and I've never seen a dynomometer... Is this a hand held device? Are they cheap enough to own? Where can I go to get it dyno'd? Is this something most auto places would own/perform?

That would require a little too much fabrication to be called a bolt-on.

Another thing a performer (which is aluminum)gives you or takes away from you is weight. An aftermarket intake is the way to go if you plan on modding your engine. Also if you plan on going with a 350 in the future you might want to get parts that will benifit that 350 later one.

I'm thinking blown 400 for my next engine Right now I'm trying to break the 200 Hp mark, but I think I want about 500 Hp in the next engine (or car).
