Ditched return line, now i got problems..detailed
Hey guys. Using my bro's name, here. I have an 86 SC with the anemic LG4. I wanted to upgrade the stock fuel pump, using a Holley 12834. After researching I found that most people just plugged the fuel return line. Well since then I have had major problems with the carb starving, and stalling cause of no fuel flow. when i put a pressure guage on it read 6 psi. However, it will eradically lose pressure and I will see gas bubble into the filter. My question, has n e one else had this happen and what did you do to relieve the problem, I was also told that the return acts as an equalization tube, since is an almost sealed system. I kept it simple by plumbing the 3/8 tank line using 3/8 from pump to carb. Thanx in advance guys.

Quick simple fix:
Go get the gas filter for a 69 Chevelle SS396. It will have a 3/8" inverted flare at each end, and a 1/4" return fitting. Make fuel lines to connect from the fuel pump to the filter and filter to the carb, and hook the return line back up, to the filter.

If you've got air bubbles getting into the fuel filter for more that a minute or so of running there's one simple answer: You're sucking in air BEFORE the fuel pump. There are several pieces of rubber fuel hose between the tank and the fuel pump. They could be getting old. Or somethign even weirder could be happening but you are sucking in air from somewhere.

Bubbles could also be formed by boiling gasoline (the bubbles on the bottom of a boiling pan of water are H2O, not air), but I agree with Damon.
