"Carter quadrajet" - hummm, last time I saw one of those was on a '66 Impala SS 327. Come to think about it, that was the first quadrajet I ever saw. For years I thought q-jets were made by Carter.
Wasn't true, though. Turns out Rochester contracted with Carter to build OEM carbs until they could get their production up to speed, then pulled the plug on Carter. Appears they let Carter put their name on the carbs they made, even though the design and all features belonged to Rochester.
If you really have a Carter q-jet, it's got to be an old one. Nothing wrong with them (other than being old, perhaps), as they were identical to Rochesters except for the name on them.
Unless you're talking about something else, of course....

I forgot about the Thermoquad. They're not really a q-jet, although a spread-bore. Only seen them on Chryslers, anyway. I haven't heard of any new ones being made for over 10 years.
The Carters that Weber makes for Edelbrock aren't q-jets - they're Performers based on the old AFB. The q-jets that Weber makes for Edelbrock after Edelbrock bought the rights to the q-jet from Rochester are Performer Q-jets.
Whew!

Thermoquads worked good when they were new. Better for towing than performance. In the 70s dad had one on his 75 3/4 ton. Lotsa power. However they arent usually rebuildable. The main body is made of plastic!(actually phenolic i think) Usually the body cracks then it either has an internal vacuum leak or fuel leak.

Just happened to run across a photo of a Carter 9800 here:

I had never heard of this Quadrabog replacement. They are for sale here: (low low $350 price . . . ha!)

I wonder what carb the original poster of this thread has? Carter square-bore? Regular Q-jet? hmmmm
