Air Cleaner Question...

Whats the better setup for my 305 4 barrel?

1. Stock setup with the single intake.
2. Stock setup with the double intake.
3. Open air element.
4. A "Ram Air" setup

If Ram Air is the way to go, is there a way to setup a system on my 83?

Thanks

Mike

You can start with a 14" open element and then add on a cold air/ram air system as time and money permits.

I added a dula snorkel cold air system to one of my Malibus that came from here:

www.ramairbox.com

They have many systems available. The one I bought fits AROUND a standard 14x3 open element setup and was of generally high quality although it took some "modification" to clear the large HEI distributor.

The factory-type snorkel is good for a daily driver, especially with temperature extremes. Cold weather, the thermovac helps avoid that off-idle stumble as the engine is warming up. The single is a huge restriction, though, so the dual is the preferred setup.

Hot weather, stop & go driving, the open element really suffers (at least, did for me). Either factory or the Ram Air ducted cool air really makes a difference.

I'm considering the Ram for the '57, since it only has open element right now, but they are pretty proud of their product.

I have the same setup on my '83 T/A. Can anybody recommend a place to buy the open air element? I already have the 14" K&N filter...
