life expectancy of holley blue fuel pump

i was just wondering how long this pump should last in my camaro. i believe it is mounted where the stock fuel filter used to be. So it does have about 4 feet of fuel line between it and the tank. Although i should mention that with a 1/4 tank left and the line disconnected from the pump it dumps fuel very quickly so i really didn't think that sucking fuel would be a problem. I just would like to know how long it will last until it dies and if you can tell when it is starting to go out.

the reason i am asking is because everyone seems to tell me that electric fuel pumps don't seem to last very long. So i was just wondering how miles i should be able to get out of one and whether or not you can tell if it's going out?

thanks a lot
steve

I went through 5 of them in two years. But some people have had good luck with them. Remember that they are inexpensive so if you want something that is built better and will last longer you will have to shell out more money.

Mine would get hot and start to cut out if I drive my car for more than an hour at a time, It's only 3 months old, I called holley and asked them about it and they said it's not recomended to run them for long periods of time.

I heard the same thing, but if that's the case then what is the best, most reliable electric fuel pump for carbed cars? Is Mallory any good?

i too would like to know what would be a good reliable fuel pump to run, although i have not had any problems with mine yet ~crosses fingers~ so i guess we'll have to see.

but when it goes out what do you all recommend?

I have been running my blue pump for a year and a half with the only prob being a leaky gasket on it due to pressure from not running a return line. My car is a daily driver also. I would definitely recommend a Mallory 3 port return style regulator if you get one. They do recommend putting them as close to the tank as possible though. Mine is mounted right next to the gas tank.

A stock TPI pump IN the tank is probably the most reliable. Mine has over 110,000 miles,on it and and over 11 years old , and still runs like a champ

My first holley blue lasted 2 hours. yeah, two g*d d*amn hours. I wanted to drive my car really bad so I stole the fuel pump off my dad's boat, its a holley blue also, but a MARINE Edition, like $20.00 extra bucks or whatever. Hes been using it on his mercury 250 for YEARS, or WAS till I got it. hehe. Works great! still works! the rebuilt kit is like $20 or somthing, but no need for it! Working for over 3-4~ years now... counting the time on his boat. I guess the moral of the story is you NEVER KNOW hehehe. gota love electronics.
