How to change accelerator springs??
How to change accelerator springs??
we got a set of both 30cc and 50cc springs yesterday from the auto parts store. We have limited knowledge of carbs, so if someone can explain how to and where at to change the accelerator springs in the Holley 670 avenger carb? if someone has a diagram....that would be fantastic!
Also, what the difference between the 50cc and 30cc springs? is one more strip oriented and the other more street? thanks everyone

I can't imagine that carb ever needing a 50cc accel pump. I've never seen the need to just replace the spring, but I doubt the 50cc spring will work on your stock 30cc pump. The 50cc accel pump is used on big engines with big carbs that need a huge amount of fuel off the line. What is the problem with the carb, maybe we can help?
well, the car will run real strong through the first 2 gears, then bog down in 3rd at like 3500-4000 rpms. someone here suggusted changing the springs, ---not the pump---just springs. so we bought them, wanted to test them out, and see what we came up with. will changing to the 30cc springs be enough?
it has the stock jets on it, so it know it needs to be tuned a bit.
another thing i dont understand is the metering blocks? is there actully a spacer or block that will tell you if your running to lean or rich? thanks guys.

I missed where someone told you to change the accelerator pump springs, but thats completely bogus. Changing the spring without the associated 50cc pump housing and diaphram will do absolutly nothing except maybe cause binding problems. Even if it did, there is no remote chance way that needing a 50cc is actually your problem.
Get an A/F gauge, hook it up and see what it's actually doing. My first thought to running great through 2 gears and bogging in 3rd would be insufficient fuel delivery, but you'll have to test that out to be sure.

I told you that the carb came with three springs a fuel mileage, accelereation and a heavier vehicle spring. You didnt even need to buy them because they came with the carb. These springs are vacuum secondary springs. The yellow spring is the performance spring black one is for heavier cars and will help with gas mileage. You need to give more information on the car, so we can see what performance mods you have done.

did you buy the carb brand new, because if you did they come with it. What type of tranny is in the car. Have you tried rejetting it yet.WHAT do you have the timing set at. What speed and rpms is it bogging at. Those springs might not even help with your bogging in 3rd problem because they just control when the secondaries open up. What are the cam specs?

If the bog isn't until 3 gear, maybe the fuel pump can't keep up or the fuel filter is getting a little bit plugged up. The secondaries are going to be open in 1st and 2nd gear, so they are probably working OK.
