problem with stock cc4bbl

recently under heavy acceleration, instead of the relatively brisk acceleration I normally get, the engine just sort of groaned, and ever since, I feel as if I have about 70% of the power I previously had. There is no throttle response, especially when already rolling.

The carb is emitting a steady clicking noise when at idle, also.

Any ideas or solutions? Please help!

The engine is entirely stock, and has new plugs and wires.

The clicking noise is the mixture control solenoid. It is doing its job. It is not only normal, but would be defective if it wasn't doing that.

Sounds like a possible clooged cat... I had one of those once, the motor wouldn't even go over 2500 RPM, and it took forever to get even that far. Turned out the material inside had broken up and got all packed into the back end of it.

Okay, that's good to know about the carb, I had just never noticed that noise before :lala:

Would a clogged cat cause the car to idle weird or anything? It's running perfectly fine except for when I'm accelerating.
