Edelbrock for 86 T/A???

Now what I'm trying to figure out, is if Edelbrock makes a beefyer stock replacement 4bbl carb for my 86 T/A with a LG4 engine. From what I have heard is that Edlebrock only makes Carbs for non Computer controled engines before the 80's.... Now can anyone help me out and or give me some tips on what I should do to help get my T/A away from being damn near all stock except for the exhaust and a L69 dual snorkel. Also the real main reason for my need for a new carb is sometimes the car will idle at 1500rpm and when will return to about 1000 when I give it some gas... Sticky carb i guess...

The shame of "stock LG4" doesn't lie with the carb. It's a good piece, and should be maintained through all performance modifications while the car is still on the street.

Fix your current carb. It will cost you less than buying the new hardware that you will need if you try to replace it, even a non-CC q-jet. What you have now is also the only emissions-legal carb available to you.

Either get a rebuild kit and go through the carb, or as mentioned, get a rebuilt carb. Another option is to have it rebuilt. I don't have any personal experience with them, but if you read the magazine articles posted on this board by Steve Green (have "Stroke in the Desert" in the title), he was satisfied with the job Jet did for him - and he had a CC carb on an emissions-legal 383.

You've done the right thing with the L69 air cleaner, that's for sure. What have you done with the exhaust?

I also suggest that you rebuild your carb.
Also check the spring on the throttle mine was weak and would do this. I changed the spring and it was fine after that.

Is your car an automatic because 1000 rpm idle seems a little high to me.

mines a 5spd and I idle at about 750 rpm.

I have a '86 T/A with the LG4 (for which I just ordered a rebuilt Q-Jet, mine pooped out) and auto tranny, and I normally idle at between 500-700 RPM, when everything is working properly.

My T/A is a 5-Speed as well, but I do have my timing advanced to apx 16-18 BTDC thats why I normaly idle around 1000rpm... If I bring the timing back down to 6 the stock setting then I will idle around 750rpm or so. Also I have known that my throttle return spring is not stock, its a shorter spring that is just streached out to fit. ( I purchased the car in Oregon, of which they don't smog their cars so I had to do a lot of repair to the smog equipment such as cat, smog pump, T.P. Sensor, choke pull of and E.G.R. valve... Heh ) It's always an on going project to keep the red beast going.

Also what I did to my exhaust is just a high flow cat and choped the rest of the pipe off after about 1ft from the cat
Everything else is stock with 155,000 miles, not rebuilt and wearing out fast ( My Clutch's Hydraulic just went out last Sat )
I have run a best ET of 15.5 at 94 ( With L69 Intake and K&N )
I would include a pic, but I dont know how to do html... will post one later.
