removing choke from carb, PROS AND CONS?

I am removing my electric choke from my carb because the choke light stays on sometimes for minutes and makes a buzzing sound. how do i get more fuel to flow into my carb now? What are the pros and cons of chokes and removing them from the car?

Pros: None that I can think of, except maybe the choke light will go out (or, more likely, it will stay on all the time).

Cons: Nearly impossible to start and keep running on cold mornings.

Well i am going to put a manual choke in in a month. for the winter. What about getting more fuel to my carb. i think that is why the choke comes on. i really don't understand chokes to much. the car seems like it gets eough gas untill i take a sharp turn or it will just come on on the highway.

My choke was totally inoperative when I first dropped the 350 in my car. I could start it, even on a cold day, but it would take sometimes 8 or 9 tries. But it always started and it always ran. I eventually fixed the choke (something about pulloff not operating correctly) and voila, car starts first try.

The choke light coming on with the car running means that there is something wrong with the choke circuit, not that the choke is coming on.

Choke light coming on, buzzing sound - I haven't had it happen to me, but others who have needed a fuse or choke relay, if memory serves. Possibly a bad wire.

Fixing any one of those would be easier, cheaper, and would result in a choke that would operate better than a manual choke.

My engine bay is a total mess. the guy who dropped the engine in before i got the car really did a $hitty job on it. there are wires all over hanging and other things to taht nature. that is why i cant wait till winter when my new engine goes in and trans. no more carb.

I had a 750 Holley with an electric choke until the day I stripped a bolt hole on the main-body and said "well geez instead of fixing this why not buy a Proform main body?" Now I have no choke at all. Pros: I gained a solid 1 tenth in the 1/4 by the increased air-flow. Cons: starting in the cold isnt *that* bad. I tap the pedal like 3 times then start it. Once its started it takes about 30 seconds of giving it throttle before it'll idle by itself. Give it about 10 minutes and it'll be completely warmed up and running fine.

Heres a pic of my chokeless carb:

Choke light is also the alternator(charging) light. When that choke light is on, check the voltage and the battery--should be at least 13+. Sometimes an alternator that is almost on it's way out won't charge until the rpms are up high enough--then it will charge just fine.
