Ram air/Cold air(?) with a carb

Is it possible to put a ram air type system on a carb? (If I put this on the wrong board, please point me in the right direction) I've heard alot of people talk about doing it but it was on TBI or TPI. I have a few ideas but I'm not sure they will work because I don't even know what it would be called, so I could search for it.

I don't mean to be particularly picky about this, but technically, the carb and TBI setups are already ram-air. It's just not visible from the outside. The intakes are meant to take air that's coming straight on, between the top of the headlight and underneath the lip of the hood. Now, as far as getting MORE air to the system, the best way would be a dual-snorkel. You can find a GM kit in the classifieds once in a while, or build your own using the tech articles.

Evil: Thank you for the link.

CaysE: That was my whole idea, more air into the system. I have a 305 and from everything I've read, air is one of the things that is lacking for that motor.

Gator & RB83L69: Thanks for the pics.

I had/have Gator's setup on my car. Right now I'm running an open element air cleaner but don't really like the look of it. I don''t know are the tech terms for everything so you'll have to excuse me as I'm pretty new to this. What I would like to do is use the stock air filter set-up, with 2 boxes mounted where the foglights would be with tubes running from there into where the stock filters would be. Then using the stock plastic piece on top (like Gator's) with one tube coming out of it going straight into the carb. I wanted to get a piece that would fit over the carb (but small to cut the air turbulence). I think that the piece I could use would be from either a Safari or Savanna cargo van. (can't remember which). Someone also said a S-10 truck would have one. I don't know for sure. If after reading all of this, you can understand what I mean, I would be very happy if you could tell me if this would work. (Sry this is so long)

The stock L69 setup in the pic of my car gets its air from under the edge of the hood, right above the headlights. About the same as the fog lights as far as air sources go, but far easier to install, and no guesswork as to what fits or what doesn't, and no disturbance to the cooling system. I highly recommend it. They appear on this site's classifieds from time to time, watch for one.

Now THAT is brilliant. The air cleaner has a notch in it that aligns it to the carb on an angle, so how did you get it to turn straight? Also, are you still using a filter in the air cleaner, or just in the TPI box?

The notch a beat in with a hammer. I also had to beat a place for the distributer and fuel fitting(cause i do not have a stock carb), which none of those are visible without taking it off. I am using a KN filter in the cleaner and not the tpi box. I have also "gutted" all the crap that they had in the cleaner to make it less restrictive. My future plan is to run the tpi setup into the grill for even more air.

CLH, I thought about doing what you sugested, but i had concerns about the car getting enough air at idle since there would not be any circulation.
