Why??? If you ran 13s with a TPI, Id say you were already on the right track. I think you might have just took a step back. Depending on how you tune your carb, you might run slower, or around the same time. If you tuned it extremely well, you might cut a few tenths of a second off.

well, im thinkin the carb is gonna help you more than you realize. if you were running the stock TPI set up, you're going to get a lot more high rpm breathing with the carb, which is where your cam and heads shine. however, if you had an aftermarket tpi set up, then with good tuning look for about the same e.t. or a few 1/10's faster....

If you were running a stock TPI setup with that combo, I think that you should see a nice improvement with the addition of a carb... I punched it into DD2000 and it says that it should result in these sorts of number differences...(Used hydraulic lifters, tends to be more accurate as pointed out by Vader)

Sorry, don't know how to paste DD2000 files:

Tuned Port:

RPM HP Torque
2000 137 347
3000 210 368
4000 304 399
5000 365 383
5500 379 361

Carb:

2000 127 333
3000 204 357
4000 298 392
5000 376 395
5500 398 380
6000 408 357

Now I know that it's not the most accurate program, but for the money, I'd go with carb over an aftermarket FI unit...(no offense intended to FI guys, I'm just talking about dollars and personal preference here) Then again, if you can afford AFR's, you've either got lots of money or you've saved up hard

low 13's for that setup is NOT on the right track. Thats a low-12 second combo easy. You should be gaining a good chunk more than just a couple tenths.

I'll have to agree I think that car should be faster than 13's unless your car is insanely heavy. A carb may do wonders for you

I can't imagine that cam worked to it's fullest potential with stock TPI. What they said above, you should see a good gain when you get it tuned.

The car feels much faster. I never had the time to get it tuned right on the dyno with efi setup. It might have ran better after tunning. I just hope now to be at least 12.50's or more with the setup. I do hope to gain a lot from this swap.

track times

Went to the track today. The results were ok I guess. Went 13.25 @105.80 with 1.89 60ft. zero tuning. running 76-86 jets in carb now and 35 deg timing. I think alot of it is in my converter. The 2800 stall worked great with the tpi setup because of the bottom end torque. I plan on going with a 3600-4000 stall here soon to see what happens. Car weighed in at 3575 with me in it.

On a side note the car went 13.50s on street tires @106.70
Then I put on my slicks and went 13.29 @102.30 shifting at 5500
Then I tried shifting at 5700-5800 and ran the 13.25 @105.60
I figured with the 3mph gain I would have seen a 2-3 tenth improvment.

Let me know what you guys think. Or if ya have any ideas.

Drew
