I was reading last night, and whated to know your opinions on this conversion.
It was right out of D. Emanuel's book.
I havn't had a real chance to tune my new DP, but the first test ride showed a bog when it was punched.
357CIN
Victor Jr.
XE284 w/6" idle (6300 Feet ASL)
830CFM Holley DP (Currently taped with AN-8, running 6PSI)
4.5" PV Pri, 3.5" PV sec -- 74Jets Pri, 75 sec.
Mechnical Keith Dorton/Holley Pump (AN-10/AN-8)
TH-350 Full Manual
Car is very light, with no accesories at all, inside or out.
Also assuming this 50cc goes on the secondaries? right?

At least try tuning it first. if you just can't get enough fuel out of the 30cc...then worry about converting to 50.
yea, I'm going to try that tommorrow. I'm going to mess with the squirters first, but went ahead and ordered the 50cc kit along with squirter anyhow - save on shipping...
Thanks,

I too get a bog at the track during launch with my 650 DP and the 30cc pumps.........I am gonna get jet extensions for the secondaries and adjust fuel bowl up a bit and see if it helps. If not, I may convert too.
Holley says to go to 50cc pumps for above 0.042 squirters. I have 0.042 in both pri and sec.
Are you going to do both pumps or just one pump, the primary?
Thanks!

I was going to do one for now on the secondary.
I noticed that the 9380 has 30cc on the primary, and a 50cc on the secondary out of the box. So there must be some logic to it?
However in the book, the author states that Holley recommands 50cc on both for DP on automatics???

Have either of you tried any other pump cams yet?I too awhile back had a bog I swore was due to too small of an accelerator pump and was about to order the 50cc kit.For the hell of it I bought the pump cam kit for $18 and swapped them around while testing & tuning to finally realize the orange pump cam did away with the bog totally.I right now have a .45 squirter on both sides and have yet to run out of pump shot with the 30cc pumps. This is on my Demon 750DP..but that should not change the way it works in relation with a Holley carb..they all work the same.If you have played with squirters and still have a bog..try pump cams before you swap the pumps. You may not have enough intial timing either...bump it up two degrees to see what that does if the cams don't seem to help.Another thing you can try is to raise the float level slightly on the primary side to help speed up the activation of the main circuit. If you make one change at a time you will see how all of these steps make a huge difference in how the carb works..I learned alot this summer from going thru these steps on how and what effects how a carb works.Just some ideas..HTH

Onebadz,
Thanks for the info......did you buy the Holley cam kit? I did. I am using the pink cam, how does it compare to the orange cam, more shot later or earlier? Are you using the same cam on each of the primary and secondary circuits? Do you have the 0.045 squirters on both sides?
Thanks, Phil

Yeah..I used the Holley pump kit.The orange pump cam is alot more pump shot (earlier..agressive) right at initial throttle movement...right out of the hole and I run the pink cam on the secondaries.I run .45 squirters on both sides of the carb.

My bog actually is occurring at the track, with slicks, when I sit at the lights, revving at 4k rpm, then dump the clutch and go. I may need a cam, pump, squirter, jet combo that is tailored for the track. Any thoughts on this scenario.........?
I will adjust my floats and get jet extensions 1st and see if they help then move to squirter size and pump cams that delay the charge till I romp on a partially open throttle.
Thanks, Phil

Try the jet extensions like you plan to and raise the rear float level so there is more fuel on reserve when you dump it to keep the jets covered. You may be pushing all the fuel to the rear of the bowl..which jet extensions will help...but more fuel level in there is also going to help also.HTH
i noticed you're using a victor jr. when i went from arpm to the victor i got a bog. i tried allot of squirters and finally added the 50cc pump to the primary. cured the problem and actually went down a few sizes on the squirters. hope this helps
Yeap 'craig' I had a Victor Jr also, and did put on the 50cc.
No more bog what so ever
Running 35's, and have the 50cc on the secondaries.
