Carb backfired, now runs like crap. What's wrong with it now?
Rebuilt the carb like 500 miles ago. Was trying to start it today, it was real cold, like -5. Had it running, I was opening up the choke. Saw a red flash in the primaries and heard a loud pop, stalled. Then it ran crummy all the way home. Bogged, had no usable power at any rpm, and wouldn't idle (had to two foot it at stoplights). What's the problem with this thing now?
Thanks,
Homer

You didn't say what kind of carb it was, but if it's a Holley, your power valve is shot. About 10 min. of time and around $10 or so I think.
If it's any other, well, I'm out of ideas! Contact :hail: five7kid or :hail: Jester for major troubleshooting tips!
Good luck!

Nah, that's not it.
Since it was just rebuilt, I'm starting to think maybe it's the ignition instead. I've done nothing with it, and I've read that carb and ignition problems mimic each other.
But would an ignition problem have such a rapid onset? I would think it would be more of a gradual decline.

I've never had a backfire do anything to a Qjet. In fact, I'm not sure it really CAN do anything to a CCC Qjet...
Backfire enough on a regular one and I'd bet you could do some damage to the power piston.

Ok, good. I'm glad to hear that. I'm thinking maybe it needs more fuel since it likes to be choked even when warm.
Still waiting for that special wrench to come in on special order so i can reset the rich mix stop. I think it needs more travel.
