Carb settings
Carb settings
I was told by an "old-timer" that the carbs had a summer setting and a winter setting. Is this true?
My Camaro idles at about 2000-2500 every morning until it reaches about 110 degrees. Should it be doing this and is there anything I can do so that it does not do this? Thanks for your help. By the way my Camaro is a 1984 Z-28, 305 all stock.

No, it is not true. The carb contains a system, the "choke", that automatically work to help it start up when cold. Among other things, that system raises the idle speed. So yes, it's supposed to do that. But 2000 is a bit excessive; I keep mine set so that when the engine is cold (below 20°F or so) it idles at about 1200 at startup. It works out to about 2400 when it's hot.
