Non CC carb, what distributor
Non CC carb, what distributor
Since i got my engine rebuilt in my Camaro, i have been trying to learn as much about poformance and going fast as much possible. My Camaro (85 Z28 Lg4) had the stock cc carb before the rebuild. Now it has an Edelbrock carburator, along with edelbrock intake, headers, and a mild cam. I was going to buy an Accel distributor, but a guy at Checkers told me that I should just keep the old distributor i had in it, which is the computer-controlled one because with the Accell i wouldn't be "able to time it right"
Does this guy know what hes talking about? I don't have any of the old sensors hooked up, so how does the computer get the right information to know when or how much to advance it?
should i get the Accell?

As I understand it, you'll need to get a non cc distributor, in order to get some advance. I think that the computer gets it's info from the carb..on when to advance the timing. Instead of buying a new unit, you could get one from a junk yard and recondition it (which is what I am doing).
I'm still learning, so some of this info could be wrong.

If you are running a computer controlled distributor with a non CC carb your car will be getting NO advance ...its probably like driving around a 3-cylinder Geo filled with concrete.
You could just get a vacuum advance GM HEI distributor out of a junkyard and it may just suit you perfectly but if you are looking for all out performance go with an MSD Pro-Billet. The Pro-Billet is a bit pricy but I feel its worth every penny.
